Filming for “Magic Mike XXL” is Underway in Myrtle Beach
Well, the day that many locals and visitors have been waiting for has finally arrived – Channing Tatum is officially here, in the flesh.
Beginning at 7 a.m., several groups of spectators lined Ocean Boulevard around 23rd Avenue North expecting to get a peek at the star in action. And they did, watchinig as the actor strolled around on set, and rode down the Boulevard in a black and silver Rolls Royce.
Tatum, along with Matt Bomer, Kevin Nash, and Joe Manganiello, are in Myrtle Beach to film the final scenes for “Magic Mike XXL”, a road trip-themed sequel to the 2012 exotic male dancing movie that grossed over $167 million at the box office.
Filming took place today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and is scheduled for 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Wednesday, but that might not be necessary if the crew gets what they need on day one.
In the sequel, the guys take a drive from Tampa to Myrtle Beach for a convention that takes place on Independence Day. Consequently, Boardwalk Beach Resort had a sign out front that read “Welcome Stripper Con Happy 4th.”
In addition to the Boulevard shots, scenes are expected to be filmed on the Boardwalk near the SkyWheel and Plyler Park, with indoor shooting taking place inside Breakers Resort and Boardwalk Beach Resort. Crews were also in town during Labor Day weekend filming scenes around Pier 14 and Second Avenue Pier while the beach was filled with vacationers.
“Magic Mike XXL” is not the only project to be shot in Myrtle Beach lately – others have included “Eastbound and Down,” “Party Down South,” and “Trailer Park: Welcome to Myrtle Manor.”
The movie is scheduled for a July 2015 release.
