Named after the straw hat-wearing champion golfer, this Carolina Forest restaurant serves a variety of sandwiches, salads, and steaks for lunch and dinner in a country club-style setting.
Sam Snead’s Oak Grill & Tavern Food
For lunch, the menu is divided into four sections – Around the Greens (salads and soups), Grand Strand Burgers, Tavern Flatbreads, and The Short Course.
Highlights from the Around the Greens menu are the Classic Cobb Salad (tomato, avocado, egg, cheddar, grilled chicken, bacon, and bleu cheese), the Grilled Salmon Salad (mixed greens, candied pecans, goat cheese, tomatoes, balsamic reduction), and the Chicken, Cheese & Nut Salad (mixed greens, cheddar, monterrey jack, almonds, pecans, tomato, honey mustard).
For Burger’s, Sam Snead’s uses only Certified Angus Beef, fired to guest’s specifications on their oak grill. Options include Sam’s Burger, Cheeseburger, Caddy Melt, Birdie Burger (no bun), and Grilled Portabello Burger (no beef, but an oak-grilled mushroom cap, roasted red peppers, goat cheese, bleu cheese, and balsamic reduction).
The list of Flatbreads is short and sweet, including a Margherita, BBQ Chicken, and Oak-Grilled Steak. And The Short Course menu is mostly comprised of classic sandwiches (Club, Turkey, Reuben, French Dip) with a Chicken Quesadilla and Fish & Chips also on offer.
For dinner, Tee Off is the appropriately-named list of appetizers, and includes everything from Fried Green Tomatoes and Bruschetta, to Wings, Tuna Sashimi, and Cajun Shrimp.
Flatbreads, Soups, Burgers, and Salads are essentially the same as they are at lunch (see above). One major difference on the dinner menu, however, is In The Fairway, their selection of steaks. Just like with the burgers, Sam Snead’s steaks are all Certified Angus and cooked to order on the oak grill. Cuts include a baseball cut 8oz Sirloin, Prime Rib (10 or 14oz), Filet Mignon (6 or 8oz), New York Strip (14oz), and Ribeye (14oz), and sauce options include Bearnaise, Port Wine Reduction, Peppercorn Gravy, or Oscar-style (Hollandaise).
Highlights from the Water Hazard menu include Oak-Grilled Salmon with yellow rice, Shrimp and Lobster Pasta with a garlic cream sauce, Seared Scallop Capellini with Asian vegetables and Thai chili sauce, and Fish and Chips with crispy fries, coleslaw, and tartar.
The Long Course menu features other standard dinner fare, like Baby Back Pork Ribs, a Bone-In Pork Chop, Chicken Madeira, and Fettuccini Alfredo.
Sam Snead’s Oak Grill & Tavern Atmosphere
Pictures from the old days of golf line the walls, from black and white player photos, to prints of paintings of the great courses and their clubhouses. Along with the dark wooden panels, the pictures give the place a definite 19th-hole country club atmosphere that’s obviously welcoming to golfers and families-alike.
