The great Palmetto State is known for everything from its golf courses, historic districts, and most importantly, its beaches. South Carolina has countless beautiful beaches that line its eastern border and make it one of the largest vacation destinations. South Carolina offers soft, luscious sand and warm-tempered waters. However, some of South Carolina’s best and most well-known beaches are found along The Grand Strand. Myrtle Beach:

Myrtle Beach is one of the biggest beaches in the state and consists of numerous beaches. Located right along Highway 17 Myrtle Beach is a place where everyone can find what they’re looking for. Visit Resorts such as The Caravelle or Sea Watch for a relaxing get away. Also stay at hotels such as The Coral Reef Hotel and Sea Crest Hotel. Myrtle Beach is home to many luxurious resorts and hotels great for couples, older groups and families.

With activities such as parasailing, pontoon rides, dolphin tours and jet skis you are sure to always have an exciting, fun-filled day. Whether with family or friends, Myrtle Beach’s giant ferris wheel known as the “SkyWheel” is a fascinating way to enjoy a view of the coast like never before. Cherry Grove Beach:

Located in North Myrtle Beach you will also find another gem of South Carolina known as Cherry Grove Beach. Cherry Grove is a breath of fresh air and is a small relaxing place full of wide sandy beaches and extensive history.

Cherry Grove is much smaller than North Myrtle Beach and sits along the Atlantic inviting people to sit back, relax, enjoy a sunset or two and live on island time. Here at Cherry Grove you will find numerous oceanfront resorts but will also find a wide range of vacation homes. While staying in Cherry Grove you can dine at some of the Grand Strands best restaurants such as The Shack, Duffy Street Seafood Shack, Z’s Amazing Kitchen, and Mission BBQ. For Golf lovers, Cherry Grove is one of the top golf destinations offering some of the best courses. Search for top-rated courses and tee off at places such as Surf Golf and Beach Club, Azalea Sands, or Beachwood. Before leaving this beach oasis be sure to also take a walk or two along The Cherry Grove Pier, first built in the early 1950s.

Surfside Beach:

Stay and play at one of South Carolina’s friendliest beaches, Surfside Beach. Surfside was incorporated into the Grand Strand in 1964 and has then been known as the “family beach.” Offering a clean, expansive shore perfect for all families big and small. This beach has lifeguards stationed across the shore and has public accessible showers, bathrooms and ramps for persons with disabilities. Surfside is there to care and cater to everyone.

Surfside has countless public parks located all across town that are always full of energy. In these parks you will find people playing tennis, bocce, shuffleboard and more on almost any given day. Garden City:

Garden City Beach is located just south of Surfside Beach and is one of South Carolina’s prettiest beaches. Garden City is a much smaller community but it is known for its great sense of community and hospitality, especially for families. This beach proves to be very unique as it is where the ocean and inlet meet, making it a great spot for crabbing, fishing, and watersports.

Although the heart and center of Garden City is the Garden City Pier, this beach destination is full of endless entertainment and fun. The Garden City Pier is often crowded with people all throughout the day. During the day you will find the Pier to be a rather popular fishing destination but will watch it come to life as the sun sets and the boardwalk becomes full of live music and dancing. The Pier is a lively, fun, community filled landmark of Garden City.

Aside from the Pier visitors will also find countless other ways to fill their days here. Enjoy the Garden City Pavilion Arcade, located across from the boardwalk. Popular places also include Gilligan’s Island Funland, Tupelo Bay Golf Center, Carolina Escape Rooms and Village Surf Shoppe. Be sure to also stop for a bite at one of many restaurants like Eggs Up Grill, Gulfstream Cafe, or Conch Cafe. Also enjoy fresh seafood at Crab Daddy’s Calabash Seafood Buffet, Wahoo’s Fish House or Lee’s Inlet Kitchen.

Pawleys Island:

Known as being “Arrogantly Shabby” is one of South Carolina’s best kept secret beaches, Pawleys Island. This small island is one of the most beautiful beaches that helps to make up the Grand Strand. Although the actual island only stretches a mere 4 miles long, the true town of Pawleys Island can be found across the causeway. Pawleys Island is a quieter, more exclusive beach found in South Carolina and is only a short drive from the historic city of Charleston. 

While visiting Pawleys Island you will find many local eateries full of fresh caught seafood and countless types of pimento cheese everywhere you visit. Pawleys Island is home to the famous ‘Palmetto Cheese’ found commercially all across the US. Some of Pawleys best restaurants include Frank’s and Frank’s Outback, Chive Blossom, as well as Perrone’s for a delicious, fine dining experience. Other popular places include BisQit, The Pawleys Island Tavern and Bistro 217 for a tasty lunch before the beach.

In addition to such great dining and beaches, Pawleys also offers numerous beautiful shops and boutiques to enjoy.
