Iconic Myrtle Beach-area waterpark closes permanently

After more than 30 years in Surfside Beach, Wild Water & Wheels is closing permanently. The iconic waterpark will not reopen for the 2023 season.

Park owner Mark Lazarus thanked all the customers and team members who have kept the park going for more than three decades.

“Wild Water & Wheels could not have been as successful as it was without your support and loyalty. Thank you for being a part of our family and for the memories over the last 30 years,” Lazarus said in a statement on the park’s Facebook page.

A rezoning application filed in October with the town of Surfside Beach requests that the land where the park sits be rezoned for a mix of multi-family housing and commercial development.
