Educational Attractions for Kids
A trip to Myrtle Beach needn’t only be about the sunshine, the beach, the amusement park rides, and the great food. There’s opportunity to have big fun and learn a little something at the same time. Shhh! Don’t tell the kids! We have museums, aquariums, and so much more to enhance anyone’s trip to the Grand Strand. You’re never too young or too old to learn about the natural environment and the history of a place, whether you call it home, or your home away from home. So, by all means, enjoy the beach, the abundant sunshine, the amusement park rides, and the great food, but plan at least a few hours (or more) during your trip for a little something extra. Murrells Inlet Shelling & Eco Tour
Set sail on an unforgettable family-friendly eco-adventure in Murrells Inlet. Ripley's Aquarium
The award-winning Ripley’s Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach has, since its opening in 1997, been educating families about the aquatic world off the South Carolina coast, and around the world. A moving glide path takes you through and under the reef to see dozens of sharks and countless species of fish in a natural-looking environment. A penguin colony joined the attraction in 2020. New exhibits each year entice visitors to come again and again.

Blue Wave Adventures Dolphin Watch

Lowcountry Zoo at Brookgreen Gardens
While the sculpture gardens at Brookgreen Gardens may not pique the interest of many children, the Lowcountry Zoo is definitely something they won’t want to miss! This zoo is home to several different types of local Lowcountry animals, including otters, foxes, alligators, and more, plus different species of local birds! Kids will love seeing the animals in person as well as learning different facts posted about each animal around the zoo.

Geared toward children 12 and under, EdVenture is all about learning and about fun. Their motto: Touch, explore, play and learn.” Located in Myrtle Beach, the Museum is loaded with interactive displays that little hands can’t get enough of. Ever-changing and growing the museum also hosts special events and programs for young, inquisitive minds. Parents, you might even learn a little something while you’re there.

Myrtle Beach State Parks
With two State Parks along the Grand Strand you have twice the opportunity to learn about the coastal environment through interactive displays at the Park’s Nature Centers, and through guided tours, led by Park staff and naturalists. So much lies hidden from sight unless you know what to look for and where to find it. These Parks, Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park, are true educational resources.
