11. Exploring State Parks

Some Myrtle Beach visitors — and even many locals — never make it to our two State Parks. There are plenty of distractions here at the beach, no denying. But those who don’t visit are missing out on two of the jewels of our region, both offering very different takes on the natural beauty of the Lowcountry. Myrtle Beach State Park is just minutes from the airport and downtown regions, and Huntington Beach State Park is just 30 minutes south of Myrtle Beach along U.S. 17. South Carolina takes great pride in its many State Parks and visitors rank the two along the Grand Strand as something really quite special. At either park you’ll have the opportunity to step back in time and see undeveloped maritime forests that haven’t changed much for millennia. The roller coasters and cotton candy will be there waiting for you, so why not consider exploring the Grand Strand’s really wild side.
