About Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Entertainment District

Known as “the heart of Myrtle Beach,” the Boardwalk Entertainment District has plenty of options for people of all ages to enjoy. This oceanfront stretch boasts a convenient location right in downtown Myrtle Beach. Along with 1.2 miles of walkable boardwalk, the downtown Myrtle Beach area is home to tons of great shops, restaurants, hotels, rides, attractions, and entertainment.

The Boardwalk and Promenade in Myrtle Beach is a free space open to the public 24/7, 365 days a year. If you drive to the Boardwalk, you’ll have to pay for metered parking during the spring and summer months. You can avoid parking in this entertainment district by walking, renting a bike or scooter, or taking public transportation. Some resorts offer Boardwalk access, so guests don’t have to pay for parking to enjoy this picturesque site.

The classic beach tune by The Drifters pays homage to life “Under the Boardwalk,” but the real fun is above ground these days at this popular Grand Strand site. Its beachfront location offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, while the boarded path features everything from kid-friendly activities to date-worthy restaurants.

Places To Shop

The various Myrtle Beach Boardwalk shops feature all the goods and gifts to make your seaside getaway one to remember.

Stock up on everything you need for a day on the Grand Strand at Tsunami Surf Shop. This popular Myrtle Beach store offers apparel and accessories for everyone. Parents appreciate the practical wares, including towels, resort clothing, sunscreen, and other extras. Kids love the beach toys and the variety of longboards and skateboards to explore. Thrill-seeking vacationers hit the waves with surfboards, gear, and activewear from Tsunami’s selection.

Shop souvenirs for the entire family at Gay Dolphin Gift Cove. This oceanfront store has been a Grand Strand staple for decades. Browse the colorful seashells, beachy home décor, and other coastal collectibles to find the perfect Myrtle Beach keepsakes. Snap a few pictures for your new souvenir frame with the silly on-site statues, including a Yeti, Elvis, and pirates.

Places To Play

If you’re looking for fun and exciting things to do while in Myrtle Beach, look no further than this downtown entertainment district.

The SkyWheel is the centerpiece of the downtown area and stretches nearly three stories into the air with 42 climate-controlled gondolas for the perfect combination of comfort and excitement. Visitors will get a panoramic view of the beach and the Boardwalk during their 15-minute flight.

Adrenaline seekers only need to walk across the street from the SkyWheel to find Free Fall Thrill Park. This popular Myrtle Beach attraction features towering rides, including the Sling Shot, Air Strike, and the Screaming Swing for hours of exciting entertainment.

Boardwalk visitors can also explore three of the four Ripley’s local attractions: Ripley’s Believe it or Not Odditorium, Ripley’s Haunted Adventure, and Ripley’s Crazy Golf. Take advantage of special discounts when you book multiple Ripley’s attractions at once.

Places To Eat

While having fun on vacation, you’re sure to work up an appetite. Thankfully, there’s a wide variety of restaurants in this entertainment district.

Wicked Tuna at 2nd Ave. Pier is a popular spot for a cocktail and a meal. Famous for seafood and sushi, Wicked Tuna also serves plenty of options for the non-seafood-lover. The oceanfront eatery offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic and the Boardwalk.

Many classic restaurants also call this bustling district home, including the famous Bowery. Known as the Eighth Wonder of the World, The Bowery is home to the supergroup Alabama, which got its start as the house band for the bar from 1973 to 1980. The Bowery serves cold drinks and Southern hospitality seven days a week from its prime spot on the Boardwalk.

Annual Events

The Boardwalk hosts family-friendly entertainment throughout the year, including summer concerts and holiday events such as the New Year’s Eve bash. It’s also home to the annual Carolina Country Music Fest, the Myrtle Beach area’s largest live music event featuring country superstars along with up-and-comers over a four-day festival on the oceanfront. Make time to experience one of these exciting events during your stay.

  • Down on the Boardwalk…..

Take a trip down memory lane, walk down with kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and tell about them about the way it was. Then go and make new memories for them to pass along.

  • Beef jerky

Everything was good and fun except the lady with glasses at the beef jerky shop she was so rude to my husband over beef jerky that didn't have a label on it.

  • Beautiful sunsets

The natural beauty of MB is amazing!!!!! We stayed for 8 days at The Carolinian resort. The beach was not overcrowded and we found plenty of shells. My husband flew his kite and a nice man came to actually came down the beach to show him how to fly the kite. :) We ate at a lot of different places , in all honesty the places further from the beach we got the best service and better food. The places within walking distance of the beach we had terrible service and the food was subpar. I don’t know if it’s out of frustration or laziness but at 3 places we watched our server just sit and chit chat with coworkers instead of serving us. :( The food at the Melting pot , Rioz, and the experience of Pirates Voyage were GREAT!! For the most part the local people were friendly to us. We went during a “ canceled” bike week so we saw plenty of bikes which for me is a plus. We walked tonDonalds pancake house for breakfast almost everyday which was nice. We watched the sunset nightly from our balcony ! Absolutely beautiful!! Everyone at MB that we talked to told us not to go walking or be out much at night, so we didn’t really do any of that. We did take beach walks at night. I enjoyed my visit. We spent quite a bit more $ than we planned too. We were planning on possibly buying a condo but after researching online we are reconsidering. Seems transplants aren’t welcomed much in MB and blamed for its crime and conditions. Ranked one of the highest in crime rates. :( I genuinely enjoyed my stay , but it could’ve been the company I kept I enjoyed more
