Myrtle Beach International Airport
Just like the Grand Strand community it services, the Myrtle Beach International Airport is getting bigger.
MYR recently opened a new terminal and completed major renovations to improve the overall flight experience for passengers arriving and departing the Grand Strand. The project not only added new features to the airport, but also more than doubled the total size of the facility. The additional space and modern amenities place MYR on par with many major metroploitan airports in the U.S.
Offering direct and connecting service to virtually any point in the U.S. and abroad, MYR is now a 430,000-square-foot facility thanks to the addition of the 240,000-square-foot passenger terminal and concourse. The expansion also increased the number of departure gates from seven to 13 and created three +new ground-loading positions.
To accommodate the increased capacity of pasengers, MYR added a new an automated baggage handling system, a passenger boarding bridges, and a rental car facility with a pedestrian canopy. A new roadway circulation and access roads were renovated and expanded to allow direct access to both the north and south ends of Myrtle Beach. Boardwalk Cafe', Caribou Coffee, Nacho Hippo, and Steak 'n Shake now provide food and beverages.
The Program included major public involvement and support by most all municipalities in the county and other groups such as Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, Myrtle Beach Area Hotel Association, Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation and the Horry County State Delegation.
