Description

About Man O’War

Located in the Carolina Forest section of Myrtle Beach, Man O’ War golf course is no joke, as its name suggests. Surrounding a 100-acre lake, this course contains all the drama and challenge that are the hallmark of world-famous architect Dan Maples. This lake winds through the course, but don’t be dazed by its beauty or else it can become a punishing hazard.

Man O’ War is a par 72, 18-hole layout that features large Bentgrass greens, and holes that challenge even the best of golfers. Test your skill and prepare yourself for a battle for par against the amazing island 9th, and back-to-back island greens.

But don’t worry; if you’re a golfer that is working on his or her skill-set, then you are in luck. Though there are some challenging holes on this course, the fairways and rough make this course playable for any golfer. The fairways are smooth and consistent, and also not very tight which makes it easier to pick the ball. The rough is short, which makes it easier to find your ball and keep the pace of play smooth and fast.

While you’re at the Man O’ War, be sure to stop by the practice range, putting green, chipping area, and practice bunker to prepare for an all-out war against the tough obstacles on the course. Also be sure to check out the marina-style clubhouse that provides players with a pro-shop and a restaurant to serve those golfers that grew hungry during their “battle.”

"Unfortunately for us, we played during the late fall/winter season where I believe most or all of the golf courses in Myrtle Beach area over seed their courses for the winter. During this time they water a lot and let the grass grow we did not know this due to we're from Michigan. Also no carts are allowed onto the course during this period so plan on walking a lot. With that all said we still enjoyed our round. The course is pretty straight forward with lots of water, but doesn't really come into play unless you spray the ball a lot. "

"Great layout. Despite all the rain, fairways held the water better than other courses played this week. green on the other hand were a mess. Very slow and bumpy in many spots. Overall we liked and hope to play again when conditions improve."

"The course was in good condition with moderate difficulty with several holes surrounded by water. Customer service was excellent as we were offered a cold towel during our round to cool off in the hot temps! We also received lunch and 2 beers included in our round. Would love to play here again! "

"Everything was great overall. Only disappointment was the fact that the grill was closed by 1:30 and you could only order cold sandwiches."

"Best value I've seen! Course was in great condition, and the price to play included lunch (sandwich, 2 beers, and chips). Greens were in great condition! Definitely on the list to revisit! "

"The starter was very gracious and accommodating. The course was in great shape. At this point, I've played all 3 of the mystical courses. And I've enjoyed them all. For those planning a trip, if you plan on playing at a couple of the mystical courses on your trip, I would suggest you not play Man O War and The Wizard on the same trip. Both excellent courses, but both similar courses. The Witch is a great and different style course; which would enhance your experience with SC golf."

"A number of T boxes were aiming into the woods off of the fairways. The greens were slower than expected. A couple if crowned holes. Play kept up nicely. Course is very forgiven on most holes. Competitive for higher handicappers. I'd give it another try."
