Description

About Lion’s Paw at Ocean Ridge Plantation

Lion's Paw golf links is routinely heralded as architect Willard Byrd's finest work. Part wild and untamed, part rustic and quiet, the course features two distinct but equally challenging and impressive styles. The first 12 holes play through towering hardwoods and feature a fair amount of elevation change, while 13-17 venture out into an open area where trouble comes in the form of wind and not hills. Featuring deep, sugar-sand bunkers MiniVerde greens, Lion's Paw gets a 3 1/2-star rating by Golf Digest and is included in Golf Digest's esteemed list of the "Top 50 in Myrtle Beach."

"Decent course, but not up to the same quality as Tiger's Eye or Leopard's Chase. Greens were ok, but not terrific...tee boxes were overgrown. Enjoyed the layout but was not as impressed as I was with Tiger or Leopard."

"I had first tee time and they held us back and put 2 threesomes in front of us because they were locals And lived there. We missed our 2nd tee time since we are scouting for our yearly 40 friends group outing. Myrtle is next years destination. Pro shop gave us a very lame excuse that we needed to call pro shop 48 hrs ahead since we did not make the reservations directly with them. BOGUS excuse. Then they let out 2 more groups on the 10th since they were using both sides because the 2 locals 3 somes never checked in to stop them. We waited 25 minutes on the 10th tee. We will never return nor will our group use the so called Cat courses. Since you did not inform us of the 48 hour rule that the pro shop used as an excuse we will not be using your service either. This was the worst and poor excuse of Southern Hospitality we have ever experienced. 40 golfers may not make much of a difference, but the food and drinks we would have consumed would have made a small dent. Not to mention the word of mouth this will be generating. "

"Played on a cold windy day and that made it really tough, as wind seemed to always be hurting rather than helping. Dormant rough was very dry and made for tough shots."

"Lion's Paw was in excellent shape. I have played there numerous times and it was in the best shape that I remember. New greens were excellent. I have always enjoyed playing "the Cats". The employees are always excellent and courses in good to great shape."

"Lion's Paw was a good course, but not as nice as the other three. The wind was blowing a constant 30 mph on the day of play with gusts up to 40 mph. This made the course more difficult. It would be nice to have another set of tees in the 6200 range. The greens were smaller than the other 3 courses and fairly hard, but rolled true. The clubhouse was breathtaking."

"I played Lion's Paw on Sept. 14th. I was told by the young man in the kiosk at Martin's PGA Golf Superstore that the greens had been aerated on Sept. 9th. What he didn't tell me was the horrible condition of the greens. Only 4 greens were puttable. Some had sod placed on them. All of them had many bare and burned out areas. Great layout of the holes. Horrible greens. And they got full price. "
