The Calvin Gilmore Theater’s Performing Arts Series Will Begin With Radio Host Garrison Keillor

Garrison Keillor, one of radio’s most recognizable story-telling personalities, will be kicking off a Performing Arts Series in January at The Calvin Gilmore Theater.

A Prairie Home Companion, Keillor’s signature radio variety show, has been captivating audiences and winning awards since 1974, and was even adapted into a 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Woody Harrelson, and Tommy Lee Jones. His stage show, An Evening With Garrison Keillor, includes stories and anecdotes about the Midwest, the population of Lake Wobegon, and late-life fatherhood, all told with Keillor’s dry sense of humor, which is equal parts charismatic and wise.

The Performing Arts Series will consist of 8 – 10 performances, and though the schedule hasn’t yet been released, future acts will include musicians, comedians, politicians, and authors.

“With its burgeoning local population,” said Gilmore, “the area is ready for something new in entertainment—something that brings popular culture and an intellectual edge to the forefront. We are pleased to introduce this new series with Garrison Keillor, a writer and innovator of the highest caliber.”

The Calvin Gilmore Theater is best known for variety shows like The Carolina Opry, Good Vibrations, and The Carolina Opry Christmas Special, drawing praise from locals and visitors alike year after year and being voted once as South Carolina’s Most Outstanding Attraction.

An Evening With Garrison Keillor, a one-night engagement, will take place January 25, 2015 at 6 p.m. and a limited half-hour book-signing will follow the show. Tickets go on sale October 15 at noon and will be available at the box office, online at The CalvinGilmoreTheater.com, or by calling 800-843-6779.
