Everything you need to know before Parasailing in Myrtle Beach

Have you ever considered parasailing in Myrtle Beach, but have a few questions before you decide to book your trip? Many people have questions about parasailing, and we're here to help with that. Check out our list of frequently asked questions about this great family activity, one of the most popular Myrtle Beach watersports:

What is parasailing?

Parasailing is an adventurous kiting activity in which a person (or people) is pulled behind a motorized boat while attached to a special parasailing parachute. Once the boat starts moving, the person harnessed to the parachute is carried into the air. When in the air, the person parasailing will enjoy a smooth ride above a body of water (such as an ocean or marsh) and check out the scenery around and below them.

Is parasailing in Myrtle Beach safe?

The professional staff members at each watersports company are there to make sure you are as safe as possible. Also, parasailing accidents are rare in the United States.  This is because the equipment that these companies used must be inspected and all staff members must be trained and certified.

How do you take off and land while parasailing?

Once you are harnessed in your chute, the parasail boat will smoothly pull away and you will ascend into the air. Upon landing, you can ask to be dipped into the water, or opt not to. When you return to the boat, you will slowly be reeled in and land softly on the back on the boat in a sitting position.

Do I have to hold on while parasailing?

While you should hold on to your harness during takeoff and landing procedures, you do not have to hold on while you are in the air because of how the harness is constructed.

How many people can fly at once?

This varies from place to place, but many Myrtle Beach parasailing companies will allow single, double, or triple flights. This, of course, depends on weight and whatever restrictions the parasailing place you are visiting may have.

How much do I have to weigh to go parasailing in Myrtle Beach?

This depends from company to company depending on their equipment. Also, the answer to this question depends on if you want to fly alone. The minimum weight to fly alone at many places is around 110 lbs. However, children of a specified age can ride with a legal guardian on a tandem or triple parasail. Be sure to contact your watersports company to find out their specific weight requirements.

Do I need any specific skills or be physically fit to enjoy parasailing?

No; you do not need to be “in-shape” to parasail and you do not need experience. As long as you meet weight requirements, you may enjoy the thrill of this activity.

Will I get wet?

No. You will only get wet if you get dipped into the water per request.

Do I have to know how to swim?

You don’t need to know how to swim to parasail. Take offs and landings are done from a boat, so you won’t be in the water. However, in case of an unlikely emergency, you are required to wear a lifejacket while on the boat. Also, you will be in the hands of parasailing professionals who will keep you safe.

Do the places for watersports in Myrtle Beach offer photo/video packages?

Yes, most companies do for an additional fee. Please contact your watersports company of choice to make sure that they offer photo/video packages before you book your parasailing adventure.
