Spotlight: Alligator Adventure
Alligator Adventure is a popular family-friendly attraction located at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach. Known as “the Reptile Capital of the World,” Alligator Adventure is home to a variety of alligators and crocodiles, as well as many other reptiles, birds, mammals, and amphibians.
If you’ve never been to Alligator Adventure, put this fun attraction at the top of your list for your next Myrtle Beach vacation. Here’s what you can expect when you plan your visit:
Of course, those visiting Alligator Adventure will come across alligators! In fact, Alligator Adventure boasts Albino Alligators, American Alligators, Chinese Alligators, and crocodiles like Yacares (Caimans), False Gharials, and more.
Guests love Bob, a female American Alligator that was born without a tail, as well as Utan, King of the Crocs – an 2,000 lb, 18 ft hybrid crocodile considered to be the larges croc on exhibit in the United States.
Other animals at Alligator Adventure include: Hyenas, Lemurs, Squirrel Monkeys, Tortoises, Turtles, Frogs, and a variety of snakes and birds like Kookaburras, Eurasian Eagle Owls, and more.
Alligator Adventure offers educational live shows for visitors. These include:
•Alligator Live Feedings: These take place from mid-April through mid-October. Guests will watch as a trained staff member feeds 15ft alligators as they leap out of the water to grab their dinner. Visitors will learn what alligators eat, how high they can leap out of the water, and more. Sometimes the staff veterinarian, Dr. Sam Seashole, makes an appearance to answer questions, too!
•Alligator Handling and Lecture: During the cooler months, Alligator Adventure holds Alligator Handling and Lecture shows in place of Alligator Feedings. Trained staff members will allow guests to touch a real alligator and get photos taken, as well as answer any questions guests may have.
•Snake Handling: Visitors can make their way into the Alligator Adventure amphitheatre and watch as professional staff members handle and teach guests about different kinds of snakes. Lucky audience members may even get to wear a snake as a hat!
