This thriller by an up and coming author, Mark Burnell, is about a woman named Stephanie Patrick, whose world was destroyed when her family was killed in a plane crash. The story follows Stephanie as she falls into a downward spiral and eventually takes on different personalities and identities in order to try to find herself and serve the intelligence service that has recruited her to solve the mystery behind the plane crash that killed her loved ones.
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
This novel by Patrick Ness is the first book of the dystopian Chaos Walking trilogy. The story surrounds a character named Todd Hewitt, who lives in a town that is made up of only men. However, the town was infested with a Noise germ, which allows Todd and the men of his town to read eachothers’ thoughts. Follow Todd as he and his dog try to escape a dark secret while hostile men from the town are at their heels.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
This tale of a mother and daughter follows the story of Bernadette Fox, an architect from Seattle on the verge of a mental breakdown from the qualms of city life. Her daughter, Bee, wins a trip to Antarctica from her school, and in planning, Bernadette ruins a school function and goes missing.
