One might not expect to find an authentic Italian restaurant sandwiched between a dollar store and a beachwear chain, but Toscana Italian Bistro pulls it off with flair. Step inside from the strip-mall exterior and you find yourself inside an upscale environment surrounded by the aromas wafting from the open kitchen, where Milan native Chef Veney serves up dishes from his homeland to your table.
In addition to fresh salads and soups of the day, Toscana offers an impressive antipasta lineup of traditional items, like the fried calamari, escargot and bruschetta, and house specialties, such as polenta topped with a Bolognese meat sauce or a Gorgonzola creamy pepper sauce. Entrees include all the Italian classics – manicotti, ravioli, spaghetti and lasagna – and the fettuccini alfredo is a popular choice. Guests can pair their favorite protein, including beef, chicken, shrimp and pork, with their favorite pasta and sauce. Toscana offers a nice array of seafood dishes, such as the Red Snapper Mediterrainian and the Zuppa Di Pesce, and surf-and-turf opportunities are endless. From terra firma, the Veal Osso Buco and Chicken Marsala are solid selections. Toscana has a full bar and extensive wine list, and the dessert menu features cannolis and tiramisu.
Toscana has a surprising charm given its neon-lit location. The walls are painted with streetscapes from an Italian village and scenes from the Tuscan countryside atop white-washed walls that give off an old-world vibe. White table clothes and the open kitchen add to the environment. Toscana is open for dinner only and reservations are recommended during the busier months of Myrtle Beach.
