Myrtle Beach Restaurant Challenges: Can You Finish These?

Take a food challenge during your Myrtle Beach vacation and earn bragging rights, a spot on the Wall of Fame, or a meal on the house. Eating is one of the most enjoyable activities for any Myrtle Beach vacation or weekend getaway. If you’re visiting with the family, there are plenty of fantastic restaurants for kids. Groups of adults or families with older kids will want to visit the best restaurants for steaks and seafood. While most of these restaurants in Myrtle Beach offer a typical dining experience, there are a few remaining outposts pitting (wo)man vs. food in gut-busting food challenges.

Here’s a look at a few time-honored food challenges around the beach. Or you can make friendly wagers amongst family and friends for who can eat the most at an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet, but we’ll leave that to you.

Fox's Pizza Den

Fox's Pizza Den

Fox’s Pizza Den features the most difficult food challenge in Myrtle Beach. Up to three people can take the Big One Challenge at Fox’s Den Pizza in Socastee, and finish a 30-inch round pizza cut into 52 squares. Yep, that’s almost five square feet of pie! One to three people are given 45 minutes to eat the entire pizza. Each winner gets a $10 gift certificate, a T-shirt that says “I conquered the BIG ONE,” and their picture on the Wall of Fame. Losers beware, there’s also a Wall of Shame if you can’t finish. If you’re not in the mood for piles of pizza, check out the top Italian restaurants in Myrtle Beach.

Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries

Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries

4628 Factory Stores Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579

The “Big A” Challenge at Hwy 55 locations includes 55 ounces of burger meat on a bun with at least four toppings, a side of French fries, and a 24-ounce soft drink. Finish this bad boy in fewer than 30 minutes and your meal is on the house. You’ll also get your name listed on their website.

River City Cafe

404 21st Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29572

based on 3 reviews

Though this is technically only a personal challenge and not an official food challenge, the “Double Dog Dare ’Ya!” burger platters at River City Cafe are tough to conquer. Choose between the “Kitchen Sink” Burger Platter and the “OMG” Burger Platter. The Kitchen Sink features two patties stacked with Texas chili, hickory smoked bacon, grilled onions, jalapeños, mushrooms, Swiss and cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, and mayo, stuffed between two grilled cheese sandwiches, served with a pile of fries, two giant fried onion rings, and slaw. The “OMG” consists of two patties topped with hickory smoked bacon, Swiss and cheddar, lots of mayo, lettuce, tomato, and fried onion strings, stuffed between two fried egg and cheese sandwiches, served with a pile of fries, two giant fried onion rings and slaw. Good luck to whoever tries to devour one of these!
