Diners will immediately notice a unique scent after entering Bovine’s – the smell of wood-fire dominates the dining room, stoking guest’s appetites. This award-winning restaurant has also been noticed by Southern Living and USA Today as one of the best restaurants in the South. If wood-fired food with sweeping views of the inlet sounds good, Bovine’s is the place to be.
First come the hush puppies, nicely fried with a touch of sweetness. But they are not to be filled up on – one or two is plenty. The appetizer options here range from standards like Fried Calamari and a Carolina Crab Cake to distinctive starters such as Blackened Beef Roulade or Roasted Chicken Egg Rolls. From there it’s a choice between sandwiches, steaks, seafood, or pizza. Highlights on bread include the Slow Roasted BBQ Beef Brisket and the Shrimp or Oyster Po Boy, while the Wood-Fired Pizza choices consist of creative combinations like Clams Casino or Steak and Potato, along with a build-your-own option by choosing from a list of 21 toppings. Pretty much everyone will find something to enjoy among the numerous options available from the Wood-Fired Grill, which is probably the main attraction here. Choose from a NY Strip, Filet, Ribeye, Marinated Sirloin, Pork Ribeye or Porterhouse, BBQ Ribs & Chicken, Steak and Oysters, Yellowfin Tuna, or Salmon. The House Specialties list is also all over the place, ranging from Beef Short Ribs and Chili-rubbed Pork Flatiron, to Signature Meatloaf and the obligatory Shrimp & Grits and Fried Seafood Platter. Each entrée comes with a salad, corn pudding, and a choice of potatoes or vegetables.
Being a restaurant on the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet, the vibe is decidedly casual. Dock space is also available for the boating enthusiasts, giving this spot an even more authentic marshy feel. As for the crowd, Bovine’s is a great option for families, friends, or date night.
