The name may sound like a Rocky Mountain resort, but the taste is Carolina Lowcountry cuisine at its finest. Owner/executive chef Curry Martin has worked on both coasts and Europe, gaining an appreciation for great food and wine. He brings his expertise and passion to every dish, every table, every night.
Aspen Grille Food
Martin developed a few tried-and-true theories about food during his culinary travels from Napa Valley to Paris – use fresh, local ingredients and allow the natural flavors to shine. He brings that philosophy to the Aspen Grille kitchen, serving South Carolina seafood and produce straight from the docks and fields. There’s a heavy emphasis on nightly specials, featuring the latest finds at the local markets, but the regular menu offers unique creations from appetizer to dessert. Start with Cold Water Oysters or Fried Green Tomatoes, enjoy a bowl of Shrimp Bisque or a Local Heirloom Tomato Salad, then order surf, turf or both. Either way is a tough call – Shrimp and Grits, Pan-Seared Sea Scallops, Cedar Springs Rack of Lamb and a wide range of steaks and chops that are aged, seasoned and charbroiled to order. The side items have a Southern flair, like the Cheddar Stone Grits and Bacon Braised Brussels Sprouts, but are also sophisticated, like the Mushroom Risotto and Sauteed Seasonal Vegetables. If you have room for dessert, the Flourless Chocolate Cake and Blueberry Bread Pudding are favorites. Aspen Grille also has one of the most extensive wines lists on the Grand Strand.
Aspen Grille Atmosphere
The décor says upscale but the vibe is relaxed at this popular locals’ venue. The elegantly decorated dining room is ideal for a formal meal, but the bar area is light and festive, featuring live music and wine tastings. Happy hour draws a fun crowd with half-price appetizers and drink specials.
