Eat, drink and be merry like royalty at this Old Pine Lakes neighborhood hot spot. Featuring a uniquely creative menu, indoor and outdoor bars and seating, and a fun and friendly atmosphere, 44 & King is a great place to sit under a shady live oak, sip on a seasonal microbrew and play a game of corn hole. Although the name is inspired by its location (the corner of 44th Avenue North and Kings Highway), its subtitle provides a more accurate description: “A Southern Pub.”

Chef “Hoop” dug deep into traditional Southern recipes and combined them his contemporary culinary knowledge and experience to create a menu like none you will find elsewhere on the Grand Strand. One-of-a-kind neo-classics like Shrimp and Sweet Potato Grits, Fried Okra and Salmon, and Country Fried Filet Mignon. But the choice grub comes from the on-site wood-fired smoker, which patrons can smell before they enter the parking lot. The house-smoked and grilled meat options are so plentiful that meat-lovers may opt for a combo platter, like the Pig Pen (pork butt, ribs and brisket) or the Wang-Dang Doodle (jumbo-sized smoked and roasted chicken wings in a variety of flavors). Other popular options include the Chopped BBQ Plate, the Ocean Platter (shrimp, oysters, and flounder), Chicken and Waffle Sliders and the Kentucky classic Hot Brown with a South Carolina twist. There are healthier options, include the Hot Vegetable Plate, the White Cheddar Chicken Burger and a wide array of salads that can easily serve as a meal. The sides are as distinct as the entrees, with Sweet Tea Collard Greens and Creamy Custard Mac N Cheese highlighting the lineup.

This is a locals’ establishment and hangout, so expect a relaxed and low-key environment whether you sit outside on the screened-in patio deck or inside at the retro-rustic bar and dining room. Small and intimate, 44 & King is a place to chill, not grab grub and go. The patio deck and adjoining lawn area often feature live music and games.
