“Hotel Impossible” filming in Myrtle Beach

A Myrtle Beach motel is getting a face-lift this week from the Travel Channel’s “Hotel Impossible.”

Crews are working on the Carnival Motor Inn, a 24-room motel near 25th Avenue North on the oceanfront. A new sign in front of the property indicates a name change to The Waves.

Recent Facebook posts on Carnival's page suggest that the property was considering changing the name to either the Carnival Oceanfront Inn or the Carnival Inn Oceanfront after the Carnival Marquee “succumbed to the elements” in July.

Those involved with the “Hotel Impossible” project are tight-lipped. We're slated for a call with them Monday and we'll update this post with new information at that time.

“Hotel Impossible” matches host and hotel “fixer” Anthony Melchiorri with struggling hotels. Melchiorri brings a tough-love style to the projects, identifying operational and aesthetic improvements that can lead to a hotel’s ultimate success.

Owner George Brickwedde, who bought the Carnival Motor Inn in 2012, told The Sun News in December that he decided fill out a questionnaire for the show after a rough summer season.

Though the Carnival reportedly had a rough season, many fans give the property rave reviews on TripAdvisor. One recent visitor from Virginia stayed in a room renovated before the “Hotel Impossible” project.

“To my surprise I was put on the 4th floor in one of the completely renovated rooms. It was great. The room is clean, the bed was comfy and the view was awesome! The staff are friendly and a pleasure to deal with,” the visitor said.

The inn is ranked 91 out of 222 Myrtle Beach properties on TripAdvisor, with 4 out of 5 stars.

The Myrtle Beach episode will air as part of the fourth season of “Hotel Impossible,” which will premier Jan. 27 with an episode at  the Alaskan Hotel & Bar.  The season will also feature properties in Estes Park, Colo.; Hollywood, Ca.; Homestead, Fla; Islamorada, Fla. (Florida Keys); Las Vegas, N.V.; New Brunswick, Canada; St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.
