Around Your Hotel: Sea Watch Resort

The Sea Watch Resort is located in an area known for its seclusion, but you don’t have to drive or walk very far to find some of the top restaurants, bars, shopping and attractions on the Grand Strand. Here are a few of the hot spots you can visit without having to deal with the summer traffic in Myrtle Beach:

* Fine dining: Located close to the Strand’s famed Restaurant Row on King’s Highway, there are plenty of dining options to keep you busy for more than a week. Rossi’s, on the corner of Lake Arrowhead Road, is one of the area’s best Italian cafes, while Chuck’s Steakhouse serves some of the best beef this side of Omaha. Also check out Chestnut Hill, the Chesapeake House, Thoroughbred’s, and Barons for a selection of surf and turf to die for.

* Casual/family dining: Longtime visitors to this area have an institution that they must go to at least once while they’re in town – Bimini’s Oyster Bar. This laid-back beach shack serves fresh seafood, shrimp and oysters the old-school way – on picnic tables where patrons can make a mess without pretense. It’s also a hot nightlife spot with live music and friendly locals. Also try Giant Crab, the Original Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood, Red Lobster and Duffy Street Seafood

* Fast food: A short drive to Kings Highway has all the fast food establishments for those looking to get some quick food on the go. The Lake Arrowhead outlet features Burger King, McDonald’s and California Pizza Fun Zone, featuring a pizza buffet and tons of games, while the Kings Road connection offers Wendy’s, Bojangle’s, Steak ‘N Shake and other fast-food options. If you have a taste for huge deli sandwich, be sure to check out Jersey Mike’s.

* Bars: One of the most popular places on the Strand is just walking distance down the beach. Ocean Annie’s, located on the pool deck of the Sands Ocean Club, is open to the public and puts on daily shows, with live entertainment on the outdoor stage. Enjoy frozen drinks by the pool or stroll down to the beach for a dip in the ocean. It’s all good. Also check out Finn McCool’s Irish Pub, The Office, Bimini’s and 2001.

* Shopping: Sea Watch visitors have back-door access to one of the largest shopping malls in the area. The Tanger Outlet is just down King’s Road at the corner of Highway 17, featuring all the national brand-name stores. Across the street is Wal-Mart and a huge shopping plaza with a variety of shops, and it’s just a short drive north to the Myrtle Beach Mall. The Lake Arrowhead outlet has a grocery store and other shops to keep you close to home.

* Attractions: For those looking to chase the little white ball around without driving all over town, Arcadian Shores Golf Club is just down the road and provides a nice challenge to golfers. For those who prefer fishing, Apache Pier has all your angling needs, including the fish, in one spot.
