Around Your Hotel: Holiday Sands South

With Kings Highway only two blocks inland, visitors of the Holiday Sands have plenty of dining, shopping and entertainment options within walking distance of their hotel.

In addition to the many amenities at the Holiday Sands and surrounding resorts, there is lots to see, do and taste in the neighborhood without moving your car. Here’s a list of some of the top spots in the area:

Casual dining

A one-block stretch from 20th to 21st Avenues South features three restaurants that could keep you from going hungry – E Noodles, an Asian fusion diner with tough-to-beat prices, K&W Cafeteria, which serves up three family-style squares a day, and Angelo’s, which boasts the best steaks in the universe and has the testimonials to back it up. Also check out Damon’s on the oceanfront for the best ribs and view on the beach, and J. Edwards is a local institution.

Fast food

There are sandwiches and then there are sandwiches. Manny’s Deli serves up the latter, with Boar’s Head meats and cheeses stacked high on a hogie roll with all the garnishments you could ever ask for. Manny’s is a New York-style deli that brings locals around for miles to get a taste of its big-city sandwiches. The modest atmosphere adds to the deli’s mystique. It’s all about the subs. Other options include Arby’s, McDonald’s, Captain D’s, Plantation Pancakes and Hungry Howie’s.

Attractions

You’ve come to the right place for golf, whether it’s the real thing or putt-putt, but the most unique place for fun is Cancun Lagoon mini-Golf, which features indoor and outdoor play. The air conditioned pyramid takes golfers through a myriad of Aztecan holes and includes a spinner that allows players to alter their games by playing one footed or with their feet. Other putt-putt places include Safari Golf and Pirate Adventure, and Whispering Pines and Midway Par 3 offer a longer golfing challenge.

Shopping

The neighborhood includes all the usual beachwear stores, a Food Lion grocery stores and a Dollar General for basic needs, but there also are some unique boutiques worth checking out. Coast to Coast Antiques is a welcome sight among a sea of neon, offering items that have stood the test of time and Quick Cash Pawn Shop has some bargains.
