About Thistle Golf Club

Open since 1999, Thistle Golf Club in Sunset Beach, N.C., has ranked among the “Top 100 Fairways in America” by Golf For Women Magazine and earned 4 stars from Golf Digest's “Places to Play.” Thistle features generous fairways, immaculately manicured greens and exceptional service making it a favorite among Myrtle Beach-area golfers.

This favorited course features 27 holes split between the Cameron, the Mackay, and the Stewart. Each 9-hole set contains 6 different tees to suit the needs of golfers of any skill level.

On top of 27 awesome holes, the Thistle Club also offers a driving range for golfers to work on their drives. The driving range has stations for stretching, a large putting green, and a chipping area complete with a sandtrap.

Formerly, the Thistle Club used bentgrass for their greens, but as it proved to be difficult to maintain in the Carolina heat, the decision was made to recently renovate each 9 to TifEagle Bermuda greens which will be far more resilient to the Sunset Beach climate.

Of course, a notable characteristic of the Thistle Club is the clubhouse. This beautiful structure was built from the muse of an old traditional Thistle Club in Leith, Scotland, that was constructed in the early 1800’s. Using materials that one would find in a building from that time period, the Thistle Clubhouse is considered a “crown jewel” that is untouched by any other clubhouse in the region.

Besides beautiful décor and rich history, the clubhouse also boasts an authentic Scottish inspired pub called the Pot Bunker Pub. Here, golfers can enjoy a meal, or just kick back and have a beer or glass of wine.  Other indoor facilities include Leith’s Lounge, the Hickory Hall Private Dining Room, and a boardroom for work or social gatherings.

Great course

Always in great condition. Other courses were a little wet when we played, but Thistle was dry and conditions were excellent. Fast smooth greens. Fairways were clean and well groomed. Overall appearance of course was great. Replay was expensive, but otherwise very happy with the course. Probably the best of the North MB area.

Best course in North myrtle Beach area

The overall course is in excellent condition, the staff is outstanding and the greens run true.
This course gets better each year I play it. The higher rates to play this course is well worth the extra expense to play it. I rate it a 4.5 at least out of 5.

BEWARE ---"THISTLE RAIN CHECK POLICY".

My group was scheduled to play March 11, 2017, but due to Snow, Sleet, and Wind they closed the course. We were issued 31 Rain Checks for this event. This year we were scheduled on Monday, March 12th, with 25 Rain Checks (6 could not make it this year), and the forecast for the day was a 100% chance of Rain. When I arrived at the course asked Bill working the counter what was their Rain Check Policy. I was told 5 holes or less you’ll get 18 holes. If it was 6 to 12 holes you would get 9 holes. Anything over 12 holes would be nothing, which many would consider fair. The lead groups only got to the 4th hole, and we all returned to the Club House, due to 25+ mile an hour winds and heavy rain. When I asked for 25 new Rain Checks, we were informed they wouldn't issue a new Rain Check on a Rain Check. I was told we had a year to use them, which would have been fine if we lived in the area. However, this was an annual golf trip where everyone lives at least 11 hours away.
After discussing with several Pro's and General Managers at our other courses for the trip, they felt this policy was UNFAIR.
They at minimum issued the old rain check, which would expire by the end of the week. They stated we could come back between 4:00 and 5:00 PM for the remainder of the week, and they would ATTEMPT to get us out on the course. I informed them that it would be extremely difficult and/or impossible for the entire group, because:
1. Having all afternoon Tee Times of 12:30 to 1:15 at other courses, plus travel time.
2. Mostly Seniors between 62 to 75 years old.
3. Night encroaching around 7:00PM, and with their estimate time getting out, only gives 2-3 hours to play 18 holes.
Six guys managed to rush around and barely get 9 holes in before night fell.
At $82.00 X 25 =$2050.00 not a bad RIP OFF on mostly SENIORS.
BOTTOM LINE IS WE DIDN'T GET WHAT WE PAID FOR.
Can't comment on Course never got to play it.
