Description
About Springmaid Beach Pier

Note: Springmaid Beach Pier was damaged during Hurricane Matthew and is not open until further notice.

The Springmaid Beach pier is a Myrtle Beach landmark, stretching into the ocean from the Springmaid Beach Resort. Take a long walk over the ocean on the southernmost end of Myrtle Beach, and return with your very own fresh catch of the day.

This 1,060-foot wooden pier — the longest one in Myrtle Beach — is part of the popular Springmaid Beach Resort property but it is open to the general public as well. Resort guests, sightseers and avid anglers alike line the pier to grab great views of the Atlantic Ocean, with many looking to wet a line and, with a little luck, bag the big one to take home for dinner.

Fishing at Springmaid Pier

Large catches are not uncommon at Springaid Pier, which boasts the state record for Spanish mackerel and other species of fish.

Springmaid also hosts a series of fishing tournaments, including the prestigious Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo that is held all along the coast, as well as events specifically hosted by Springmaid Pier. Cash prizes are awarded to winners of all age groups, plus the ultimate prize of keeping what you caught for a free and fresh seafood dinner.

Springmaid Pier gives anglers plenty of room to spread out and fish their own stretch of water. The pier is 36 feet wide to provide plenty of safe walking room for non-fisherman going for a stroll. The end of the pier features a large “T” that is 110 feet wide and gives big-game anglers the perfect spot to cast into even deeper waters where the big ones reside.

Catch a wide variety of sea creatures, including bass, flounder, Spanish mackerel and trout, depending on the season.

Get all the information you need about what fish are running and which bait to use to attract them to your line at the Springmaid Pier Tackle Shop. This store has all your fishing needs for the day, from rod and reel rental to live and artificial bait that have proven their worth from this pier in years past.

Fishing passes are available for $8/day for hotel guests and $9/day for non guests. Rod rentals are available for $10/rod per day for hotel guests and $12/rod per day for non guests.

Other activities at Springmaid Pier

Non-fishermen looking to take advantage of Springmaid’s great location can gain access to the pier for just $2, which allows you to stroll, see the sights and even enjoy a meal atop the pier at one of the many picnic tables.

Visitors can also stock up on snacks and drinks at Fishtales General Store, which carries all your needs to stay refreshed during a fun day, including sun screen.

There’s also BARnacles Bar & Grille, a great resaturant and bar with an oceanfront patio to fill you up and help you stay refreshed during a relaxing day on the pier. Grab a burger or hot dog right off the grill or let the young and the young at heart cool off with hand-dipped ice cream and other frozen treats.

If you’re feeling adventurous you can even try your hand a riding the waves with a paddleboard of surfing lesson from Jack’s Surf Lessons and Board Rentals, located at Springmaid Pier.

The pier has been named “Best Pier for Fishing” and “Best of the Beach” by a variety of local media outlets.

  • Springmaid pier may 5 2022

Beautiful wooden pier. Wide with seating on all sides. Cost is $3 now but worth it. While we were there fishermen were cleaning their fish and sand sharks and bull sharks could be seen close by! Awesome experience! Definitely worthwhile.
