River Street Sweets first began in 1973 in Savannah, Georgia. The story began when Tim Strickland was at the Atlanta Gift Market trade show with his family. They were shopping to find items for their gift shop in Savannah on the historic River Street when Tim stumbled across a fudge pot for sale and begged his parents to buy it. They finally agreed to purchase it for their gift shop, and a week later, Tim’s sister Jennifer made a batch of mint fudge for St. Patrick’s Day, and it sold out. This made the family realize that a candy shop would do a lot better than a gift shop, so they made the switch!

Since 1980, The Fudgery has been serving up delicious fudge to the masses. With four locations in the Myrtle Beach area, the sweet fudge-selling chain is a fan favorite among visitors.

The Fudgery got its start in another beach town on the Outerbanks of North Carolina. Visitors were attracted to the delicious concoctions made in copper kettles and marble slabs — and by the entertainment! Boisterous performances from the fudge makers drew crowds to the storefront.
