Mellow Mushroom Pizza

This neo-Hippie themed pizzaria began in Atlanta in the 1970s but has sprouted around the country, bringing its theme of Peace, Love and Pizza to the masses. Despite the expansion, Mellow Mushroom has stayed true to its roots by offering creative pies and other dishes and serving as a headquarters for beer afficicionados looking to try obscure microbrews. Located across from Broadway at the Beach, this place provides a nice break from the more hectic pace of the popular shopping and dining complex.

Pizza parlors are on virtually every corner in Myrtle Beach, but none offer the unique combination of flavors as Mellow Mushroom’s pies. Try the Magical Mystery Tour with a pesto sauce, Portobellos, spinach, jalapenos and three cheeses, or the Thai Dye with curry chicken, Roma tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, basil and topped with Mozzarella and Thai Chili sauce. Not creative enough for you? Build your own pie atop Double-M’s buttery garlic crust with your choices of meats, vegetables and fungi. Also on the menu are several delicious hoagies, salads, calzones and munchies are also available, and the wide beer selection allows visitors to pick the perfect brew to go with their one-of-a-kind pizza.

The Mellow Mushroom is mellow indeed, with families filling the dining area and the younger crowd occupying the bar area, especially during happy hour, when the cool crowd rolls in. The physical separation of these two rooms provides a family-friendly atmosphere while a festive mood pervades the bar area. An eclectic crowd gives this casual-minded chain a local pizza joint feel.
