We stayed in a privately owned suite at the Beach Colony Resort and found the accomodation to be excellent... close to retaurants, golf courses, and shops. The suite is nicely laid out with adequate space and nicely decorated. Access to the beach, the pool, the spa, and the lazy river attraction is very convenient. The area to wash feet as well as to wash sea shells is an added plus!

Ok all you traveling heads out there, I'm going to share something with you but I don't want you go blasting it all over town to the "outsiders". Excuse my french but "us people on the move" have got to stick together or they will ruin it for us. In my quest to try to visit a new place every year in the US and continue to pump money into our economy, my friend and I decided to spend some time in Myrtle Beach, SC. The time, cinco de mayo week of May. The place, The Beach Colony Resort. I spent much time on my favorite travel site Trip Advisor reading through reviews and combing through photos of the many different hotels and resorts in Myrtle Beach. I really trust the info coming from the consumers and I take both the good and bad reviews into account when making my choices. You guys are awesome!!....moving on. My girlfriend and I chose The Beach Colony Resort primarily for price, location, accomodations cleanliness and amenities. An overwhelming amount of reviews addressed how much they enjoyed their stay and how clean the property was. Then, there were a few reviews that spoke poorly about the level of customer service at the resort. I consider myself a very easy going and understanding person so as long as some effort is made to accomodate me as a consumer, I'm usually pleased.... so I figured that part would not discourage me although I made a mental note. So before I arrived, I got a confirmation for the Spring Stay with Free Breakfast promotion rate. Which was a really good deal for the week compared to what the other hotels were asking. But shortly after getting my confirmation, I recieved a second confirmation for just over $120 bucks more. I was a bit ticked off thinking that ok we are getting off to a really bad start here. So I called the resort and spoke to customer service and was told that the advertised special did not included the cost of the free daily breakfast and that my total was adjusted to reflect that. I was told that I was welcome to cancel my reservation if I'd like. Long story short, I spoke to a manager and explained that the package offered should not charge for the breakfast, hence the title SPRING STAY WITH FREE BREAKFAST PACKAGE. After a little persuation on my part. The error was corrected and they honored the original advertised special that I was confirmed for. Once this was taken care of I was excited about my first trip to Myrtle beach. I was hoping that it would not be too cluttered because I love my space and needed plenty of relaxation. We arrived on a Sunday for our week long stay with a very easy, quick and pleasant check in process. I agree with some of the reviews about the parking deck, which was a bit tricky but as long as you drive slowly and follow safety instructions you should be fine. I did however had to stop and park on the first level because I had concerns about my SUV not clearing the lower levels parking areas. Other large trucks and SUVs followed suit. I was very pleased with my room. I have to say it really exceeded my expectations, it was modern with a nice size bathroom with double vanity, a spacious bedroom with TV and an opening to great view of the ocean past the nice living room area. We stayed in a one bedroom executive oceanfront suite on the 10th floor with a full mini kitchen and a balcony overlooking the ocean. The room was very clean, nicely furnished and the kitchenette had everthing we needed....pots, pans, dishes, utensils, stove, sinks, microwave, a full refridgerator and even dish washing liquid to wash your dishes with. The living room area was adjacent to the bedroom and had a nice balcony that open to outstanding almost panoramic views of the ocean. We took full advantage of the kitchen having pre planned our trip we cooked steaks, fish, burgers, bratwurst, made frozen drinks, brought all kinds of stacks and things that help save us money all throughout the week. The resort itself was very clean and offered a lot for the price. Nice clean heated outdoor pools, a kiddie pool, hot tubs and lazy river along with an ice cream shop and an outside bar&grill area. There was also a nicely manicured lawn with plenty of louge chairs no need to fight over spots or wake up at the crack of dawn for a chair. Sidenote - there always seemed to be someone outdoors cleaning and tending to the resorts needs, that was really good to see. The indoors offered an indoor pool with hot tub and a suana (small but useful) also inside you will find a restaurant bar& grill, a very well equipped game room, a small gym, a racketball court, laundry mat, also free DVD movies available at the front desk (choices were older and outdated though). The resort itself is located towards the Northern end of the beach in a very quiet well kept area of Myrtle beach. This location was awesome and exactly what I needed as there wasn't a lot of hussle and bussle going around. Just nice quite and laid back. The beach was pretty much the same way, I was so pleasantly surprised because I kind of expected a bit of clutter. Perhaps it was both location and off season time of year. Whatever the reason, it made it for me. It was a very relaxing, lounging laid back atmosphere that I simply adored. The daily breakfast buffet was really good with omelettes, french toast, bacon, sausage, home potatoes, grits and gravy, biscuits, fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, waffle station, fresh juices, coffee, etc. We took a daily relaxing walk down the beach after having breakfast and watching the sunrise (yes I said sunrise). Lots of seashells to stock up on and sightseeing along the beach. The weather during the time that we stayed averaged a mild warm 72 to 78 degrees and the water temp was maybe about at 65 so it was a bit chilly but not so much that you couldn't get in and enjoy the waves and nice salt water, Again, location was great for everything we needed. A short walk or drive took us to the boardwalk, broad way on the beach, the strip for shopping, great restuarants, house of blues, golfing, walmart, drug stores, banks, post office....you name it, it wasn't very far away at all. It was like being on a relaxing vacation with all of the comforts of home, if you needed them. I felt that was a great mix. This was a really good vacation for me and what I wanted and needed at the time. I am absolutely positive that I will be returning to Myrtle beach staying in this same resort or somewhere very near....away from the clutter that is the downtown boardwalk area, it could really use some upkeep and modernization. The pros of the Beach Colony resort were definitely the location, the quite surroundings, cleanliness, the amenities, the oustanding accomodations with awesome views of the ocean. The onsite service turned out to be pretty good, both the front desk and room cleaning. These things combined made for a great relaxing time!!! The cons were some areas surrounding the indoor poor could have used more upkeep/cleaning and modernization plus the chlorine was a bit too overpowering. I would have liked to have larger TV's in the rooms, the smallest was in the bedroom at I think a 15 inches. Although you try not to spend too much time in the rooms, it just would have been nice to not have to strain to watch the TVs. Lastly, the resort has free wifi internet access but we had problems with connectivity throughout our stay. They provided IT people to come to our rooms to assist which was very helpful. We were told that they have a limited amount of wireless stations spread throughout the resort so maybe that accounted for some of our connectivity issues. So with that said, they could definitely stand to improve on that aspect. All and all I can stay that I had a great stay at the Beach Colony Resort, I'm so glad that we chose this place. After that, I'm not sure that I even want to stay anywhere else in Myrtle Beach. We are already planning a trip back and will probably visit at least once a year. We are so happy that we booked at the Beach Colony! Surrounding resorts were hundreds of dollars more and I have no idea why! We had wonderful accomodations...ocean view 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a living room for a great price! I would definitely recommend going during the off-peak season for price, but even the summer prices were great in comparison. Wonderful indoor and outdoor pools and whirlpools and just a boardwalk away from the beach! My only complaint was that not all restaurants were open while we were there. Despite that, we will definitely go back again!

Would reccommend to anyone ocean front rooms are very nice lots of privacy the resort is very accesible it made for an overall great experience
