About The Native Sons Salt Games
The Native Sons Salt Games is Myrtle Beach’s only competitive beach festival. This two-day event held on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4 is an action-packed celebration of life at the beach where competitors test their skills against one another in the water and on the sand.
The 2017 schedule includes the Beach Bum 5K, Beach Brawl Wrestling Tournament, BLVD Blowout Skateboard Competition, and a Junior Beach Volleyball Tournament.
Past year’s Salt Games drew more than 500 participants and 3,000 spectators for events like surfing, paddleboard racing, volleyball, lifeguard games, a kids run, hot dog eating contest, yoga, a crossfit challenge, and a bikini contest.
“Native Sons continues to knock down the door of unparalleled sports competition by bringing this world class event to Myrtle Beach,” said local surf legend Kelly Rhode. “Typically, the top sports events have been in California, Australia, South Africa or Hawaii. But Native Sons strives for continuous improvement each year as they keep Myrtle Beach as a number one vacation destination by demonstrating that Myrtle Beach is a city of magic, a city of culture, and a city of excitement with this year’s Salt Games.”
In addition to the official games and contests, several mini-events and just for fun activities take place during the weekend, including cornhole tournaments, an open half pipe, a giant game of twister, Surfrider education zone, and health food vendors.
The Games will take place on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk between 8th and 9th Avenues, and will benefit the Surf Dreams Foundation, which is a non-profit that works to provide less fortunate kids with everything they need to make their surfing dreams a reality.
