Area Overview
Garden City Beach is a relaxing oasis for vacationers and locals, featuring a fishing pier and a small entertainment district
This small, laid-back beach community rests in the southeastern corner of Horry County on the border of Murrells Inlet and Georgetown County.
Consisting of only 5.4 square miles, Garden City Beach contains a small but scenic stretch of coastline. Known to locals and fishermen as “The Point,” a strip of exposed sandbars that lead to the mouth of Murrells Inlet, visitors and residents near the southern tip get a rare waterfront view on both sides, plus one of the few places on the Grand Strand where you can watch sunrise and sunset over open waters.
Stilted beach homes and multi-family complexes serve as both permanent and rental property on Waccamaw Drive, but an established neighborhood resides between Highway 17 and the causeway.
Single-family homes make up the bulk of the real-estate west of the causeway, as well as the small stretch between Highway 17 Business and Highway 17 Bypass. Commercial development along both highways is healthy, featuring restaurants, beachwear stores and other businesses in strip malls.
Naturally, fishing and surfing are popular pastimes. Garden City Beach Pier, The Point, and the tidal creeks that run under the causeway are not-so-secret fishing holes, and The Point is a gathering spot for local surfers.
Golfers are also in luck, with highly acclaimed Lowcountry courses on the Waccamaw Trail, plus more traditional layouts like the TPC of Myrtle Beach, just short drives away.
Contrary to popular belief, Garden City Beach is not an incorporated city, so all public services are provided by Horry County Police and Fire & Rescue.
