About Long Bay Club

Looks can be deceiving, and such is the case in Long Bay's beautiful but dangerous appeal. Hailed as "one of the Strand's most difficult" layouts, only truly valiant and patient golfers need apply at Long Bay.

Considered one of the most difficult golf courses on the Grand Strand, this Jack Nicklaus-designed masterpiece was built to challenge even the most adroit golfer. Formidable in every feature, Long Bay displays countless large man-made mounds, a demanding 137 slope from the championship tees (127 from the ladies), handsome but deceiving par-3 holes and bottomless bunkers.

This course also combines aesthetics and designs from East Coast and West Coast courses, but The Golden Bear kept many of the existing dogwoods, maples, and pines along the course to keep it close to its true nature.

Despite the natural beauty at hand, this difficult course presents players with a number of unique bunkers, shallow greens, several elevation changes, and tiered greens.

Long Bay is known quite well for some of the holes here. In fact, the par-10 4th is among the most photographed holes in Myrtle Beach. This hole features a fairway surrounded by waste bunkers as well as an elevated green. Also well-known is Long Bay’s par-3 13th which is a beautiful island green.

Home of the award winning "Hugh Royer Champions Golf Academy", this is the perfect school for golfers of all abilities.  And, with five sets of tees at each hole, golfers of all skill-levels are sure to enjoy the masterpiece that is Long Bay.

"My wife and I like to play in the afternoon as the crowds have played through already in the morning and we can play at a leisurely pace. We looked forward to a round of golf at one of our favourite golf courses, Long Bay. But 5 and a half or was it six hours later we finished up a most painful round. Most holes had 3 groups of golfers on them and as far as we could tell there we many more ahead of them. Anyhow, if that's how Long Bay books their tee times that will be the last dollar they get from us. "

"Course was in relatively good condition considering the amount of rain in the area during the month before we played. Nice layout, interesting holes."

"I am a local and a month ago this course was not that good but just played it on July 20th and it is back. I can tell they worked very hard to get this great track back in order. Greens are 9/10 almost back to pristine conditions. A MUST PLAY"

"The course was great. Tee boxes were in great shape along with the fairways. The greens were in decent shape, but a few of them were not in very good condition. The course still played well, and most putts were smooth. I liked that it was not very narrow, and forgiving for someone who dont hit it straight every time. Will play there again when I am in the area."

"There needs to be a warning/disclaimer and a discount when booking a round at this course. The greens are generally unplayable due to the course losing them to disease earlier in the year. Some greens have been resodded but the sod hasn't filled in yet. The rest of the greens are patches of grass mixed with a lot of dead spots. The 16th tee box is now a sandpit and heavy machinery, with the actual tee being in the fairway. I wish the course conditions matched the service, because everyone there is very nice and friendly. I can't understand how they can charge as much as they do with condition of the course being so bad."

"This unplayable course needs a warning on their website. We were ripped off. This course has a beautiful design and excellent staff. We booked and paid online after reading the glowing reviews of this course. When we arrived at 7:00AM for our 7:30AM tee time, the visible course was picturesque. We were alerted by a sign on the door that the greens had been aerated June 6-8 and that the course was dealing with "other issues." But since there was nothing on the website that indicated major problems and the non-refundable green fee of $45 had already been charged, we proceeded to check in for our tee time. At the first tee we found the roll of our balls to be quite forgiving lending to extra distance and a positive attitude! On our first approach shots we could see that this was going to be a huge disappointment. The greens were progressively unplayable. Not just aeration but complete lack of green on a few of the "greens." Not only unable to be putted but a few I didn't even bother to chip to. I just gave myself three strokes and moved on. The fairways were in no better shape. Bare patches and thin grass was so prevalent I found myself laughing at the idea of filling my divot with sand. Several of the water hazards were drained. Hole 16 diverted us to a makeshift, slanted tee box because of heavy equipment doing repairs (the workers on which of course screamed at each other over the noise of their equipment while we tried to concentrate on making a sloped tee shot). I found myself aiming for the rough just to get a nice lie for my approach shot to the crappy sand putting surface. I used fairway sand to repair two of my ball marks. All in all, this course gets two stars because 1. We were offered a rain check (I have been to North Myrtle once in the last 20 years so that's a lame condolence - I hope to use it 20 years from today) and 2. The staff was very apologetic and friendly. Three days earlier we played Beachwood and paid $28 for an afternoon tee time. It was awesome! I would have paid $50 and felt like I got a great deal. But at $45 for this course in its current condition, I left wanting to press charges. I wouldn't play it again if they paid me to. My vacation time is worth more than that. In short (too late) a simple warning on the website would have saved me $50 and four hours of the time I took from my family to enjoy what is usually my only escape."

"Played a day after 3 inches of rain so fairways were still a little wet but still enjoyed the round. The 10th is a unique one of a kind hole. Pared the 13th island hole. Would love to play the course again - dry."
