Looks can be deceiving, and such is the case in Long Bay's beautiful but dangerous appeal. Hailed as "one of the Strand's most difficult" layouts, only truly valiant and patient golfers need apply at Long Bay.
Considered one of the most difficult golf courses on the Grand Strand, this Jack Nicklaus-designed masterpiece was built to challenge even the most adroit golfer. Formidable in every feature, Long Bay displays countless large man-made mounds, a demanding 137 slope from the championship tees (127 from the ladies), handsome but deceiving par-3 holes and bottomless bunkers.
This course also combines aesthetics and designs from East Coast and West Coast courses, but The Golden Bear kept many of the existing dogwoods, maples, and pines along the course to keep it close to its true nature.
Despite the natural beauty at hand, this difficult course presents players with a number of unique bunkers, shallow greens, several elevation changes, and tiered greens.
Long Bay is known quite well for some of the holes here. In fact, the par-10 4th is among the most photographed holes in Myrtle Beach. This hole features a fairway surrounded by waste bunkers as well as an elevated green. Also well-known is Long Bay’s par-3 13th which is a beautiful island green.
Home of the award winning "Hugh Royer Champions Golf Academy", this is the perfect school for golfers of all abilities. And, with five sets of tees at each hole, golfers of all skill-levels are sure to enjoy the masterpiece that is Long Bay.
