UFO Sightings in Myrtle Beach

The city of Myrtle Beach celebrates Halloween during the entire month of October, when witches and ghouls come out to play at several Halloween attractions, parties, and events. However, the Myrtle Beach area is also known for haunting folklore and ghost stories that keep visitors entertained year-round.

Some of the folklore revolves around a high amount of UFO sightings along the Grand Strand. There is no definitive explanation for this, but there has been a large amount of UFO sightings that have been reported to various UFO websites throughout the years. Charts on these sites indicate that the sightings in Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas take place throughout the year; not just during the month of October.

Now, of course, there is no way to prove that these sightings were real, made-up, or misinterpretations of identified aircraft, satellites, meteors, or shooting stars. Either way, there is definitely no shortage of reports available online.

In fact, there have been so many sightings that, in 2013, Broadway at the Beach hosted an attraction called “Encounters: U.F.O. Experience” which featured exhibits that highlighted the pop-culture obsession with aliens, alien sightings, aliens in film, and more. When the operator of this attraction was asked why they chose Myrtle Beach as the city for the exhibit, they replied that Myrtle Beach is considered a hot spot for UFO encounters.

While there have been multitudes of UFO witnesses in the area, the reports show that different types of UFOs have been seen. Here is a very short list and some examples from reports:

Sphere Shaped UFOs

Report #1

“UFO Sighting Report 16-July-2014 23:17 (Eastern time zone) North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina—

3rd incident: Observed six orange colored spherical shaped objects moving along the beach above the water.

Occurred over a ten or fifteen minute period with one, then two and finally three objects being visible at a single time. They all appeared to originate from near the water line about a half mile or so down the beach. They would climb while slowly moving and seemed to pulsate.”

“North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, @2050 hrs. (EST)—Three bright orange spheres of light appeared and disappeared over the ocean.

Three bright horizontal orange lights appeared over the ocean in front of our condominium while we were sitting outside on the balcony, facing the ocean.

First, one light, then the second and the third appeared horizontally. These lights lit up for 3 to 5 seconds and repeated every 15 to 20 minutes and seemed to move south, down the coast.

Lastly, we saw 9 total orange spheres at one time. Three horizontal and the other six, in back of the horizontal three.

The total event lasted from approximately 20:50 EDT to 22:00 EDT. A total of 4 witnesses saw this event.”

Disc Shaped UFOs

Report #1

“Longs/Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Friday, March 6, 2015, @1700 hrs. (EST)—Orange lights on large disk, followed by smaller lights.

at first it was orange lights in the sky, coming closer to where we were standing, it seemed as though it was a number of small craft, but now after looking at the video, it was one large craft, and I mean large, perhaps miles larger and two smaller ones following it, I did take video tape of it, and the craft is visible on it, as well as the lights.

My sister took a video with her Iphone as well, my mother was also present. I continued taping with a second video the end of the event, we thought it was over until we watched the whole video. Not visible to us at the time but visible on the video is a light that came down and kind of followed us.

As I said, we did not notice this at the time and not sure what the light was. It seemed we were out there forever watching this, but the video says it was for only 2-3 minutes, not sure what that was about.”

Report #2

“Conway, South Carolina, Monday, September 23, 2013, @530 hrs. (EST)—

UFO hovering above house with blinking lights which then floated north past tree line.

Reporting for a neighbor who does not have computer access: “My dad and I were getting ready for work when my mother called us outside to see a meteor shower. Both of us came out and saw the lights but realized it was not a meteor shower but lights blinking on and off in a stationary position. The three of us continued to stare at the object. There was not a sound coming from it.

I sent my dad in to get a pair of binoculars and we looked at the object carefully with them. We discovered the lights were not blinking on and off as we thought but were dimming and then brightening. When they were dim you could not see them with the naked eye. The lights circled a disk shaped black mass that seemed to create a void space in the sky yet at times it seemed almost transparent. It was saucer shaped with the lights on the perimeter.

All of the lights appeared to be white there was one white light on the top as we were able to view it as it left.

After about ten to twelve minutes the object started to move directly north toward town. It moved slowly with no sound. It looked like it just floated away.

Since there was nothing to use as a reference I would guess it was between 50' and 100' in diameter. As it moved north, it appeared to be almost at tree top level around 60' to 100' and the body seemed to turn translucent looking like a frosted glass.

Total time viewed was about fifteen to eighteen minutes.”
