Check out one of the many things to do in Myrtle Beach this weekend.


The Carolina Improv Company presents “The Why Chromosome” tonight at Uptown in the Myrtle Beach Mall. The all-male show features riffs on the theme of men and their ridiculous, manly ways. Comedians respond to audience prompts to create a spontaneous comedy routine around the topic. Understandably, this show is 18 and up.


Friday night, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans square off against the Kingston Indians, another in a summer full of awesome Minor League Baseball events. As usual, fireworks will follow.


If you like to laugh, check out comedian Josh Wolf through Saturday this weekend at Stand Up Carolina in Murrells Inlet. Wolf is known for his appearances on Chelsea Lately, where he acts as rotating member of Chelsea Handler’s “peanut gallery” of commentators.


The Avett Brothers perform Thursday through Saturday nights at North Myrtle Beach’s House of Blues, proving that Americana still isn’t dead. But no worries. These boys aren’t beating a horse with no name. Having played shows alongside Wilco, Widespread Panic, and Dave Matthews, the alt-folkrock band had a big year in 2009. They performed on the reknowned Austin City Limits after the release of their highly popular album “I and Love and You.” Remember that song where they say “I love you?” Well, that’s one of those--and a good one, too, so check them out.


Also, Horry Georgetown Technical College’s Burroughs and Chapin Auditorium hosts Flatout Bluegrass and Harold Young and Friends Saturday night. Tickets are $12 for non-members. Visit www.rivertownbluegrasssociety.com for more information.


The Inlet Square Mall has its reopening ceremony this Saturday afternoon. The ribbon-cutting will be accompanied by food, entertainment, glitter tattoos, face-painting and more. This event is fun for kids and adults.


So get your twang on this weekend and forget about the blues--even while you’re singin’ ‘em.
