Tucked away to the south of Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet is a somewhat hidden gem — full of fun, history and some of the best seafood on the East Coast. A wooden Marshwalk lines the marsh, providing visitors smooth travels from one bar or restaurant to the next. The views are spectacular, the atmosphere laid-back and lazy. “A quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem,” proclaims the t-shirt slogan of one local eatery. Take a break from hustle of Myrtle Beach and visit this uniquely beautiful part of the Grand Strand. Here are some spots to fill your belly along the way:

Treat yourself to a meal of deliciously fresh seafood at The Wicked Tuna! This Murrells Inlet MarshWalk restaurant prides itself on the saying hook to plate,” as this restaurant boasts its own fishing boat. Indulge in seafood favorites and specialties as well as fresh sushi. Of course, you can also order a variety of other menu items such as appetizers, sandwiches, tacos, steaks, and much more. While dining at Wicked Tuna, be sure to order one of their signature cocktails such as the Goat Island Martini or the Palmetto Blossom.

If steak is on your mind, Bovine’s on the northern end of the Marshwalk may be the perfect place for you. Wood-fired and served with a salad bar, corn pudding and choice of side, Bovine’s steaks ($20-$30) are cooked to order and can be topped with Lump crab and bernaise, Blue cheese and applewood bacon crust or shrimp. Other specialties include wood-fired pizzas; seafood; pasta; and ribs. The atmosphere is upscale but cozy with excellent views of the Inlet.

Captain Dave’s Dockside has been an Inlet staple since 1975, though its recent renovations have elevated the decor to a more upscale modern feel. With an emphasis on fresh local seafood, Captain Dave’s menu is designed to let the fish shine. The Pan Crusted Grouper is a favorite choice, served with a shrimp Dijon cream sauce with wild rice for $37. Other options include shrimp scampi ($22); Carolina Crab Cakes ($16.50); and Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits ($21). Classic fried platters are also available as are steaks ($27) and stuffed chicken ($21). An outdoor bar overlooking the marsh is a nice spot for a cool drink.

For a low-key dinner in a laid-back atmosphere, Creek Ratz is an excellent option in Murrells Inlet. Featuring live music nightly and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, Creek Ratz is a great place to unwind and enjoy the Inlet. The menu includes a full raw bar (market price); seafood baskets ($17); sandwiches ($11); pizzas ($15); and burgers ($10). * Pro tip: The fried pickles on the starter menu are a must-have!

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a fabulous view of the Marshwalk and Inlet, Dead Dog Saloon is a high-energy, fun spot for a night out in the Inlet. The expansive back deck is the ideal spot for a cold drink and live music on a hot spring or summer night. Inside, the spacious dining room offers a break from the noise of the crowd. The extensive menu truly offers something for everyone from starters such as Buffalo Shrimp ($10.95), Wings ($9.95) and Fried Green Tomatoes ($10.95) to burgers and sandwiches ($12) to seafood specialties and fried seafood platters ($20-$27) to steaks and ribs ($25-$30).

Seafood takes center stage at Drunken Jack’s, where they serve it up fried, boiled or blackened and accompanied by delicious hush puppies. Prices are in the $20-$30 range unless you opt for the Drunken Jack’s Shore Dinner, which includes a soup or shrimp starter and a seafood feast of flounder, shrimp, oysters, deviled crab and a lobster tail all for $40.95. If eating from the sea is not for you, steak, chicken and pasta are also available. Most entrees also include a trip to the salad bar. If you get a seat with a view, look for goats on the aptly named Goat Island” in the marsh. They share the island with the resident peacocks from mid-spring through fall.

Rich with history and delicious menu options, the Hot Fish Club claims to be the oldest existing restaurant building on the Grand Strand. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a playground and plenty of open space under the mossy oak trees. Appetizers include Bam Bam Shrimp, Blue Crab Fondue and Springrolls all for around $10. Entrees include seafood platters ($15-$25) and specialties such as Lobster Pot Pie ($19.95); Blackened Mahi Stuffed with Crabmeat ($21.95) and Maple-Ginger Glazed Salmon ($19.95). Other options include steam pots, steaks, chicken, sandwiches, soups and salads.

With a decidedly divey look from the outside, the charming pink-roofed Inlet Crab House is a favorite among locals and visitors. Offering an array of seafood options, including some of the best She-Crab Soup on the Grand Strand, Inlet Crab House focuses on simple, well-prepared Southern specialties. Appetizers include Crab Pizza Dip, Oysters Rockefeller, Conch Fritters and crab-stuffed jalapeño poppers all for around $10. The seafood bar offers oyster and clam roasts; peel and eat shrimp; spicy steamed shrimp; or fried shrimp, scallops or oysters. Seafood baskets (around $13) include your choice of fried shrimp, oysters, sea scallops, flounder or grouper with a choice of fries or other sides. For the non-fish fans, sandwiches, pasta, burgers and steaks are also available.

Eat Like a King, Waterfront.” So says the King Street Grille’s website, and the bar is certainly fit for a king — or at least a really avid sports fan. Decked out with 43 HDTV’s, including two 75 inchers, King Street offers a superb spot to catch a game and grab a bite in the Inlet. The bar’s interior is impressive, and the outdoor patio offers a nice view of the southern end of the Marshwalk. King Street offers an extensive upscale bar menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. King Street is new to the Marshwalk in 2014, but it has thriving locations in Myrtle Beach and Charleston.

The Claw House is the newest restaurant along the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk. The New England-style lobster house, oyster bar and seafood market, which opened in spring of 2016, gets their seafood shipped straint from the North Atlantic. The menu features fresh clams, crab claws, lobsters and just about anything else you can think of! Try The Triple Decker ($109) which comes with six shrimp, six crab claws, a dozen oysters, a dozen clams, ceviche and lobster cocktail – plenty for two!

Wahoo’s features an energetic outside bar and dining area as well as a more formal inside dining area all with gorgeous views of the Inlet and Marshwalk. Illuminated with tiki torches at night, the outdoor dining area at Wahoo’s offers a cozy spot to catch up with friends or enjoy some family time. Live bands in the outdoor bar often provide the background noise for an evening out. The starter menu features unique options, including Red Curry Duck Sliders ($12.95); Truffle ‘Tots’ served with wasabi ranch cream ($6.95) and Waygu Sliders ($13.95). Entrees include traditional seafood platters ($20) and fresh catch selections as well as house specialties such as Garibaldi Divine, the fresh catch blackened topped with lump crab meat and a lemon-butter sauce or the Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna served with wasabi cream, Thai curry peanut noodles and a ponzu salad.

Located just north of the Marshwalk, Flo’s Place has been serving its unique blend of Lowcountry seafood with a bayou spin for more than 34 years. Appetizers run about $10 and include a tasty Creamy Crab Dip; Oysters Diablo; Crunchy Onions; and Fried Green Tomatoes served with roasted sweet pepper dip. Flo’s also offers an assortment of PoBoys, including shrimp, oysters, fish, chicken and crab cake all for around $11. Other menu items include seafood and chef’s specialties such as Shrimp Creole ($18.95) and Shrimp & Grits ($21.95). Chicken, ribs and steak are also on the menu.
