Myrtle Beach hotel goes pink for breast cancer awareness

Hotel Blue's lights will shine pink this month as the hotel and its sister properties raise money for breast cancer patients in the Myrtle Beach area.

For the month of October, Vacation Myrtle Beach will give guests the option of donating to the American Cancer Society when booking a stay. Last year's campaign raised over $11,000. The company is made up of 14 oceanfront resorts in Myrtle Beach with a variety of amenities and accommodations.

More than 200,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in U.S. women each year, according to the American Cancer Society. Other than skin cancer, it is the most common cancer among women in the United States. Thanks to better treatment and early detection, the American Cancer Society reports, breast cancer death rates are decreasing. There are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
