Planning a wedding is no easy feat and whether you live in Myrtle Beach or you’re planning a destination wedding, there are ways you can do it without completely losing your mind. I promise it’s possible. I did it!

Here are a few things to keep in mind while you’re planning one of the best days of your life.

Determine your budget

You can’t start on anything until you have a rough idea of what you want to spend. TheKnot.com recently reported that the average wedding costs around $28K! That’s a pretty huge chunk of change. If you’re working with a smaller budget think about how cutting down your guest list or get creative with your menu and wedding venue. Hotels in Myrtle Beach offer great wedding packages that take care of your food, bar, ceremony sites and more and offer a great option for out-of-towners as well as locals. They’re sort of like one-stop wedding shops! DIY brides may want to opt for venues with a little more freedom to pick and choose the details you care about. Think about a backyard wedding or utilizing our nearby farmhouse venues.

Pick a theme

Once you’ve decided on the budget and number of guests, pick a theme and stick with it. Find something that’s special to you and your fiancé (it’s his day too after all). With our beautiful beach backdrop, you don’t have to spend a fortune on décor! Now’s a great time to decide on colors so you can take a peek at what you’ll want the girls to wear. Here’s the tricky part. Once you pick your colors and a theme- stick with them. Don’t waste more time and money by changing your mind. You’ll drive yourself and your family insane and nobody likes a Bridezilla except maybe the ones that make it on their own TV shows.

Ask locals/business owners

Once you’ve got the big stuff in place, now’s the time to get down to details. Some of the best vendors I found were through other services I was already using. My photographer friend recommended a florist who turned out to be much more affordable than my other options and it was a place I wouldn’t have even thought to look. Found your dream bouquet? Be sure those flowers are in season or you’re going to pay for it. Our local wedding vendors and experts have tons of tips, all you have to do is ask!

Shop around

If you’re hunting for a great deal, it helps to start early. Call a few photographers that you’re considering and compare packages to see who’s offering the best deal for what you want. It never hurts to call the competition to see if anyone is willing to make a deal.

Don’t forget the big things

Check out all of the local laws for getting married in Myrtle Beach well ahead of time. The city of Myrtle Beach has some strict laws about beach weddings while North Myrtle Beach is more lenient. You’ll also have to apply for a marriage license in advance. Be sure to do your research and have those things set in stone before planning everything else. Pro tip: Make sure you actually sign your marriage license at your wedding and mail it off immediately. Trust me 😉

Hire help!

If you’re planning a huge affair from afar, it doesn’t hurt to look into a wedding coordinator. Many of the resorts around the area have a coordinator that will help with everything you need. If you’re opting for a more private venue, it may be worth looking into an event planner. There are all types of party planning packages. Some coordinators can help with every minute detail while others offer day of services to make sure your day goes off without a hitch.
