GOP presidential debate: Massive sand sculpture welcomes candidates to Myrtle Beach
In true Myrtle Beach style, a giant Mt. Rushmore-style sand sculpture will greet the GOP's presidential candidates when they arrive for Monday's debate.
Artists are building the massive sculpture across from the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Oak Street. It features several components, including a tribute to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
As of Thursday morning, the candidates' faces were not yet set in sand. However, two candidates -- Mitt Romney and Ron Paul -- have been featured in a Myrtle Beach sand sculpture once before. They both participated in the 2008 presidential debate here.
Although this year's sculptors faced soggy conditions Thursday, the weather forecast is in their favor through the weekend.
The debate starts at 9 p.m. Monday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, five days before South Carolina's Jan. 21 primary. It will air on FOX News.
