Carolina Opry Christmas Special Will Put a Smile on Any Face
Last Wednesday night, my sister and I headed out for a night at the Carolina Opry to see their Christmas Special. I was a little hesitant to see a show so early in November but I have to say, I left the show excited and ready for the holiday season!
The theater was beautifully decorated with four huge Christmas trees, two nutcrackers on either side of the stage and snow everywhere. The show has a little bit of something for everyone- singing, dancing, laser lights, live musicians, cloggers and, of course, a visit from St. Nick. The cast performs your favorite Christmas carols plus a few extras thrown into the mix.
I have to give a special shout out to the newest addition to the show, Nathan Herron. He was the star of the show and performed songs like Baby It’s Cold Outside and a powerful rendition of Mary Did You Know? His stage presence and soothing voice are great additions to the show.
All That, the clogging group known for their fierce dance moves on America’s Got Talent, stole the show each time they took the stage. A sweet woman sitting next to us leaned over to say “they just don’t dance long enough, do they?” We couldn’t have agreed more! They certainly are a talented group and bring a fast-paced, exciting atmosphere to the stage.
The ever-changing acts slowed seamlessly together. There were a few bumps in the road- the music was a bit overpowering for some of the singers’ voices and there was an irritable horse on-stage- but overall it was a great Myrtle Beach theater experience.
The Carolina Opry Christmas Special was a wonderful mix of music and fun. They offer audience participation, comic acts, piano solos from the famous Rocky Fretz, and talented vocalists. The songs range from Gospel tunes to Rock and Country with plenty of classics thrown in. I especially enjoyed Tangena Church’s version of my all-time favorite holiday song, Last Christmas. There’s plenty of dancing and costume changes with a few famous characters thrown in to keep even the busiest body interested in the show. Just be sure to bring a sweater as it was a little chilly inside.
