Brookgreen Gardens named among top public gardens in U.S.

Brookgreen Gardens, located south of Myrtle Beach in Pawleys Island, was recently named among the top 10 public gardens in the U.S. by travel review site TripAdvisor.

Brookgreen spans more than 9,000 acres of preserved natural land and — in addition to the lush gardens — features a massive sculpture collection as well as a zoo. The TripAdvisor designation was based on reviews and ratings from visitors to the gardens.

“We were delighted to be recognized by TripAdvisor as one of the top public gardens in the country,” said Bob Jewell, Brookgreen Gardens President and CEO. “It is indicative of the garden's long-standing commitment to excellence, in all that it does. For 83 years, Brookgreen Gardens has been an inspiration, refuge and retreat for our community. We hope residents and visitors will take pride in the fact that in their midst is one of America's premier gardens and we pledge to keep it ever changing, simply amazing.'

In spring 2013, Brookgreen welcomed back a walk-through butterfly exhibit with hundreds of butterflies flying through the air.

Brookgreen Gardens is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April hours are extended to 8 p.m. Admission for ages 13-64 is $14; ages 65 and over, $12; ages 4-12, $7; and children 3 and under are free with an adult. Brookgreen is closed Christmas Day.
