Brookgreen Gardens expands popular Nights of a Thousand Candles

Brookgreen Gardens is adding days and new light displays to its popular Nights of a Thousand Candles event for 2013.

The event, which draws guests to the Gardens on weekends throughout December, will run Thursday through Saturday nights this year.

“Every year this event has grown and after last year’s record breaking number of visitors, we knew we needed to add more nights. This year, we are open Thursday nights all three weekends of the event,” said Bob Jewell, Brookgreen's president and CEO.

Nights of a Thousand Candles features more than 5,000 hand-lit candles throughout the Gardens as well as carolers, performers and bells. Visitors can enjoy food, hot cocoa, wine and beer as they stroll through more than 50 acres of beautifully lit grounds.

Located in Murrells Inlet, Brookgreen Gardens is a National Landmark dedicated to preserving local plants, animals and sculptures. The Gardens include a nationally accredited zoo in addition to the gardens full of seasonal flowers and plants as well as the sculpture gardens. A popular attraction for guests to the Myrtle Beach area, Brookgreen Gardens is the No. 1 attraction in Murrells Inlet, according to TripAdvisor reviewers, with 5 out of 5 stars based on more than 800 reviews.

Nights of a Thousand Candles run from 3 to 10 p.m. December 5-7, 12-14, and 19-21. Admission is $16 for adults and $7 for children ages 4-12. Children 3 and under are free.
