3 Haunted Restaurants Near Myrtle Beach
Ah, yes, October: the month of fall weather, festivals, and frightening ghost stories. Here in Myrtle Beach, we love October, claiming it to be one of the best months of the year to visit the Grand Strand. And while we praise October for less crowds, better hotel deals, great weather, and more, we most likely love October the most for Halloween!
The Myrtle Beach area is no stranger to ghost lore, haunted houses, Halloween attractions, and tours. But have you ever considered that you may have eaten at a haunted restaurant? While it is surprising that there aren’t more properties on this list (perhaps many restaurateurs do not want to scare away customers), this small list is quite intriguing. Who knows; maybe next time you go out to eat you’ll want to dine where these ghosts hang out.
The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro
4269 Luck Avenue, Little River, SC 29566
Located in Little River, The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro is celebrated for fine dining and a unique atmosphere. The Brentwood is housed inside of a Victorian home that was built in 1910, and at one point was used as a bed and breakfast for fisherman. It eventually closed in the 80’s, but then reopened as a fine-dining restaurant.
But it seems as if the Brentwood hosts not only regular customers, but customers of the paranormal kind as well. Those who work at the Brentwood have reported strange experiences—so much so that the owners contacted the paranormal investigation team, P.I.T. Crew to stay the night at the Brentwood and investigate. After their stay, the team reported a large amount of activity (the most they’ve ever experienced, they said) especially in the kitchen and bar areas. Some of the activity that the P.I.T. Crew encountered included objects moving unexplainably, cameras being drained of power, loud noises, shadowy apparitions, and more.
The Brentwood has been featured on My Ghost Story on A&E and is listed on numerous websites as a top haunted restaurant in America. The restaurant embraces the lore, offering Ghost Dinner & Tour events throughout the year.
The Bowery
110 9th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Calling themselves the 8th Wonder of the World” The Bowery is located in downtown Myrtle Beach right on the boardwalk. Operating since 1944, this honky-tonk country music bar has a rich history that includes decades of beachfront fun, beer, delicious appetizers, and live music. In fact, from 1973-1980 the house band at The Bowery was country music legends Alabama!
But The Bowery’s rich history isn’t the only thing you will hear about while you visit. The Bowery boasts a legendary story of a man called Barman Joe.” Legend has it that Barman Joe died in his barstool at The Bowery and turned cold and blue before he sprang up in his seat, coming back to life to finish off the drinks that he ordered. Some claim to still hear good ol’ Barman Joe singing while at bar.
Dead Dog Saloon
4079 U.S. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
Greatly known for their awesome atmosphere and fun live music, the Dead Dog Saloon is a favorite for locals and visitors looking for a place to hang out in Murrells Inlet. Located on the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, Dead Dog Saloon is a great place to kick back and have a beer while watching the game, have dinner with your family, or enjoy a nice date on the deck while watching boats drive by.
So if the Dead Dog Saloon is such a nice place, why is it named that? The restaurant was named after a dog named Dudley, who is said to haunt the restaurant now. Though there aren’t really any documented reports of a haunting, Dudley has sure become a myth among those who work at the Dead Dog Saloon as well as those who spend time there. Next time you’re there and you hear your hushpuppies bark, you may not be going crazy, but it may just be Dudley telling you he is hungry from the other side.
