13 Reasons Why Fall in Myrtle Beach is Awesome

If you can’t stand the heat…visit Myrtle Beach in the fall! While a majority of Myrtle Beach visitors book their hotels from May to August, many other vacationers wait out the summer and book their hotel during the “off-season.” Most people who are not locals may be unaware that Myrtle Beach is still alive during autumn, and those who visit during the fall season will be greeted with better prices, shorter lines, and a lot less chaos.

Come experience the Grand Strand during the months with arguably the best Myrtle Beach weather. It is quite common to spot visitors swimming in the ocean well into the fall as the air temperature and the ocean temperature tend to stay relatively warm. But even if it does get a little too cool to enjoy lounging by the Atlantic, there are still plenty of other fantastic things to do. For those of you who have never visited Myrtle Beach during the autumn months, you may change your mind after reading our 13 Reasons Why Fall in Myrtle Beach is Awesome:

Hotel deals

Hotel deals

While hotels along the Grand Strand are packed during the summer months, the story is a little different during the cooler autumn months. Many people are back to work, and kids are back to school, leaving a large number of hotel rooms empty. For this reason, it is easy to find great deals and rates during the fall. Don’t know where to look for these reduced rates? Our hotel deals page is a wonderful tool to help you save money on your off-season vacation to Myrtle Beach.

Shorter lines

Shorter lines

Of course, less people means short lines! Go to your favorite stores and attractions during your fall vacation to Myrtle Beach and discover hassle-free waiting. No more waiting for an hour-and-a-half to get seated at a restaurant, and forget about there even being a line at WonderWorks. If you come to Myrtle Beach in the fall,  the lack of lines will have you feeling like a V.I.P. Unless you are shopping on Black Friday of course.

Golf

Golf

Golfing in Myrtle Beach during the summer is fun, sure, but dealing with the summer heat definitely isn’t. What’s great about Myrtle Beach is that golf courses don’t close down in the fall and winter because, well, snow is quite rare here. Coming to Myrtle Beach to golf during the autumn season is a great idea if you don’t want to sweat or battle humidity the entire time you are playing. The weather stays relatively warm here until winter, but from the time fall begins in September until the time it ends in December, you will love practicing your putt in a refreshing climate.

Great weather

Great weather

Visiting Myrtle Beach any month of the year is awesome, but the fall months prove to be the driest months with the best temperatures. The average temperatures for September, October, November, and December are 85 degrees, 77 degrees, 69 degrees, and 60 degrees respectively. Find out more about the awesome Myrtle Beach weather here

Theaters

Theaters

The great thing about the theaters in Myrtle Beach is that they’re all enclosed. So even on those cooler autumn days here, you can still spend time seeing your favorite Grand Strand shows. Most theaters change their shows to holiday themed performances around November or so. However, once you’ve had your fill of Christmas spectaculars, check out comedy performances at Comedy Cabana, or Carolina Comedy Club. No matter which theater or show you choose, you are bound to have a great time.

Dancing

Dancing

Myrtle Beach is the home of the shag, so dancing while you are visiting, dancing is a must! Try out Myrtle Beach’s signature shag dance at Fat Harold’s Beach Club or Duck’s Beach Club.  Or, enjoy dancing the night away to house and EDM music at Club OZ. There are several dance clubs along the Grand Strand, and there is certainly one for every age and every music taste.

Shopping

Shopping

Everywhere you turn in Myrtle Beach you will find somewhere to shop. In the summertime, many of the best shopping destinations are busy and shoppers are guaranteed to have to wait in line to make a purchase. However, if you come to Myrtle Beach in the fall, you won’t have to wait in these lines, and you can also enjoy outdoor malls like Market Common, Barefoot Landing, Broadway at the Beach, and Tanger Oulets in weather that won’t make you sweaty.  As always, shopping on Black Friday in Myrtle Beach is even crazier than fighting off the summer crowds, so make sure to avoid that day if you want a relaxed shopping experience.

Beverage tastings

Beverage tastings

If you’re leaving the kids at home while you vacation in the fall, then it is prime time to check out Myrtle Beach’s favorite alcohol tasting spots. Whether you are a wino, a beer drinker, or a liquor connoisseur, there is a place for you. If you want to dabble in wine tasting, be sure to stop by La Belle Amie Vineyard or Duplin Winery, both of which are located in North Myrtle Beach. Feel like sippin’ on a delicious brew? Myrtle Beach’s very own New South Brewery offers tours and tastings of the products they make at their microbrewery. And for those of you looking for something a little stronger how does a little moonshine sound? We promise that Palmetto Moonshine offers 100% legal South Carolinian moonshine that is sure to wow your taste buds. As always folks, be sure to drink responsibly.

Fishing

Fishing

Coastal South Carolina is a wonderful place for fishing! In Myrtle Beach, you must possess a fishing license to fish from the surf; however, fishing from any of the several Grand Strand piers is permitted without a license. While it is cheaper to bring your own equipment, most piers offer fishing rod rentals, so you don’t have to worry about lugging your equipment with you on the airplane or in your car. If you are feeling more adventurous, consider a fishing charter. There are many great crews from Georgetown all the way up to Little River that offer different variations of fishing tours.

Ghost tours

Ghost tours

As the weather cools down and Halloween approaches, it seems that the ghostly attractions in Myrtle Beach start to gain more and more popularity. Though many of these attractions exist all year, there is no better time to experience them than in the cool autumn breeze. Spend time braving through an interactive haunted adventure at Ripley’s Haunted Adventure, Nightmare Haunted House, or Outbreak: Dread the Undead at Hollywood Wax Museum. For haunting stories about the lore of the Grand Strand, be sure to book your ghost walk with Ghosts & Legends at Barefoot Landing. In October, many more attractions will pop up including Conway Ghost Walk which takes place in historic Conway. Be warned: all of these attractions are sure to send chills up your spine!

Biking

Biking

It may not be that fun in the summer since it is so darn hot out, but biking around Myrtle Beach in the fall can be quite refreshing. If you’re staying in a hotel close to every place you want to visit, then renting a bike can help you save gas money and also provides you with an entertaining way to exercise. During the summer the beach can be too crowded to ride a bicycle, but the beaches in the fall tend to be way less full and the temperatures are a lot more bearable. There are many places like Market Common, Myrtle Beach State Park, Huntington Beach State Park, Conway Riverwalk, and more that provide bike trails for the public.
If you have a need for speed, then opt for a unique biking experience and check out Pedego Myrtle Beach which offers electric bike rentals in Market Common.

Festivals

Festivals

Throughout the year, Myrtle Beach hosts a wide array of fun filled festivals that attract people from all over. The fall, though, is the prime season for great festivals as the mild weather is inviting for outdoor activities. Be sure to check our events calendar for updates to the festival schedule!

Camping

Camping

Doesn’t camping and  roasting marshmallows on the fire sound like a good time? While s’mores tend to be associated with summer, they always taste better in the fall when the weather is a little cooler so the warmth of the treat is soothing. In Myrtle Beach, there are several campgrounds where you can build your outdoor home by setting up a tent and sleeping bag, or you can opt to bring your RV and take a more glamourous camping route (some people call this glamping”). Either way, the autumn weather in Myrtle Beach is perfect for being outdoors, so why not spend as much time as possible outside?
