Can I use a tent or umbrellas on the beach?
The City of Myrtle Beach passsed a beach regulation that prohibits the use of beach tents and other shading devices from Memorial Day through Labor Day. However, umbrellas up to 7.5 feet in diameter are allowed.
The day after Labor Day until Memorial Day, tents up to 12 feet by 12 feet may be used behind the umbrella line. They must be located at least 10 feet from other tents and must be under 9 feet tall.
Amendments to the new beach regulation on tents are being considered that would include baby tents, pop-up tents and other smaller shading devices.
Where can I rent Beach Umbrellas and Chairs in Myrtle Beach?
It’s easy to rent beach chairs and umbrellas in Myrtle Beach! Instead of carrying your own down to the beach, umbrellas and chairs can be rented through Lack’s Beach Service.
Find the nearest lifeguard and you can rent through him or her. With over 50 Lack’s lifeguard stations from North Myrtle Beach, to Myrtle Beach, to Surfside Beach, you won’t have to go far to find a lifeguard near you.
Each day lifeguards have beach chairs and umbrellas set up by 9 a.m. From 9 a.m.-5 p.m. you can enjoy relaxing in a comfortable beach chair under the shade of an umbrella. Between 4pm and 5pm the Lack’s lifeguards will take down and lock up all rentals.
Between April and October, Lack’s lifeguards are on duty seven days a week. They accept both cash and credit for beach equipment rentals, making it easy for all beach goers.
All beach umbrellas must remain behind the tide line, which is determined by the lifeguards. If you plan on bringing your own umbrellas, they must be set up behind the row of Lack’s rental umbrellas.
Contact Lack’s for rates on beach rentals at (843) 448-774. You can also contact Lack’s for long-term rentals, or to reserve your umbrellas and chairs during a busy week.
Do I need a fishing license to fish in Myrtle Beach?
Depending where you plan on fishing in Myrtle Beach, you may need a fishing license. You can fish without a license from various public fishing piers, though most will require you to purchase a fishing pass. You can also fish without a license if you are fishing from a licensed for-hire fishing charter.
If you plan on fishing in Myrtle Beach from the shore, you will need to purchase a saltwater recreational fishing license.
Annual South Carolina Fishing License (Saltwater): Resident - $10 Non-Resident - $35
14 Day South Carolina Fishing License (Saltwater): Resident - $5 Non Resident - $11

What’s the Difference Between a Hotel Suite and a Standard Hotel Room?
Choosing between a Hotel Suite and a Standard Hotel Room really depends on who you will be vacationing with and the length of your vacation.
A Standard Hotel Room typically has one room with two beds and a bathroom. These are great for single families on vacation for a week or so.
A Hotel Suite typically has a larger living area with separate bedrooms. They may also have features like full kitchens, balconies, offices, etc. If you have more than one family in your group, or are vacationing for longer than a week, a Hotel Suite offers more space and more privacy.
Speak with hotel reservationists to learn more about what is included in their Standard Hotel Rooms and Hotel Suites.
What’s the Difference Between Oceanfront and Ocean View?
When searching through various accomodations in Myrtle Beach you will see that some rooms are labeled as Oceanfront while others are labeled Ocean View. This can be a little confusing since both offer views of the ocean.
Oceanfront rooms offer the best views that the hotel or resort has to offer. These rooms face the ocean and provide sweeping views of the coastline. These rooms are typically more expensive but the trade-off is waking up to an unobstructed view of the ocean.
Ocean View rooms can be deceiving. Any room that has even the slightest view of the ocean can be considered “Ocean View.” Other balconies or other hotels may obstruct the view. On the other hand, your Ocean View room may offer a beautiful view with very little blocking your vision. These rooms typically cost less than Oceanfront rooms, but you may not have a perfect view.
Which hotels are the best for kids?
Families make up the bulk of our Myrtle Beach visitors so almost all hotels in Myrtle Beach are kid-friendly. We've narrowed down some of our favorite hotels for kids based on amenities and extras, but the choices are really endless. The best of the best have awesome water features and pools, on-site dining and ice cream shops, arcades and entertainment, kids' clubs and more. When you're shopping for a hotel, look for the amenities you think your kids would most enjoy.
What days have the lowest rates at Myrtle Beach hotels?
If you have a flexible schedule, you can save some money on your trip by booking your Myrtle Beach hotel on days with the lowest rates.
Tuesday through Thursday - If you have time for a 3-day break, book in the middle of the week for the lowest rates. Also, avoid the weekend traffic in and out of town.
Monday through Thursday - Again, you can avoid traffic and save money by booking your vacation during the week. If you're planning a 4-day vacation, Monday through Thursday is usually the best way to go.
Monday though Friday - If you are coming to Myrtle Beach for 5 days, you'll likely see the lowest hotel rates by avoiding the weekends. A Monday arrival will also help you avoid beach traffic in and out of town.
Can I walk my dog on the beach in Myrtle Beach?
Yes, during certain times. There are several pet-friendly hotels and condos in the Myrtle Beach area, so if you're lucky enough to bring Fido for your family vacation, you'll need to know the laws of the beach where you're staying.
In the city of Myrtle Beach, dogs are permitted on the beach from 5 p.m. to 10 a.m. from May 1 through Labor Day. The rest of the year, dogs are permitted on the beach any time of day. They must be on a leash and under the owner's control at all times. Bring a baggie or look for one in dispensers along the beach accesses -- you're responsible for cleaning up after your pet!
Dogs are not allowed on the beach in Surfside Beach between May 15 and Sept. 15.
North Myrtle Beach
Dogs are allowed on the beach from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. from May 15 to Sept. 15. They must be on a leash at all times.
If you're staying outside of city limits, you're subject to the rules of the county. In Horry County, dogs are not allowed on the beach from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 1 through Sept. 1. They must be on a leash and under the control of their owner at all times.

Whether you'd be better off visiting in fall/winter or spring/summer depends on what you're looking for. The summer is high season when the biggest crowds flock to Myrtle Beach. Attractions such as waterparks and even some restaurants, particularly those located at hotels, are only open during the season. During the off-season months, you can find great hotel deals. The beach is less crowded, though still pleasant for walking and shell hunting. Restaurants and attractions that stay open are also less busy.
I’m planning a Myrtle Beach wedding. What do I need to do?
First, you’ll need a marriage license, which you can apply for at the Horry County Courthouse in Conway. The courthouse is at 1301 Second Avenue, Conway, S.C. There is a 24-hour waiting period so you’ll need to apply for the license and file a statement that you’re eligible for marriage. You can pick up your license the following day. The fees are $50 for Horry County residents; $75 for South Carolina residents; and $100 for out-of-state visitors.
Licenses are valid from any county in South Carolina, but out-of-state licenses cannot be used.
For the wedding ceremony, please observe the following rules:
